Medical Assistant II
The Medical Assistant II functions as an integral member of the clinical team, executing comprehensive clinical and administrative tasks to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the physician practice under limited supervision. In addition to providing direct patient care, this role serves as a peer mentor and is responsible for the training and onboarding of new medical assistants to office workflows.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties:
- Patient Intake and Rooming: Rooms patients and prepares them for provider visits by accurately measuring and recording vital signs (including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, and respiratory rate) and documenting patient history, chief complaints, pharmacy information, and prescription lists directly into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Clinical Procedures and Provider Assistance: Assists providers with in-office medical procedures, performs point-of-care testing and electrocardiograms (EKGs) in compliance with quality control standards, chaperones providers during examinations as required, and properly labels all specimens for laboratory processing.
- Medication and Vaccine Administration: Administers vaccines and medications safely as ordered by licensed providers, while consistently monitoring, logging, and maintaining medication/vaccine refrigerator temperatures to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Care Management Workflow Ownership: Manages assigned practice workflows—such as pre-visit planning, workflow dashboard management, charge entry, claim management, and clinical inbox management—and executes specialized care workflows including Transitional Care Management (TCM), Chronic Care Management (CCM), and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) when active in the practice.
- Pre-Visit Coordination and Outreach: Reviews clinical schedules to perform pre-visit reviews, ensuring necessary external documentation (e.g., lab results, consult notes, hospital records) is obtained prior to the appointment, and conducts targeted patient outreach to schedule specialty appointments and required testing.
- Operational and Administrative Support: Answers, triages, and routes incoming telephone calls appropriately, schedules patient appointments and diagnostic testing upon checkout, directly schedules patient visits across associated practices using established scheduling rules, and coordinates prior authorizations and insurance referrals.
- Staff Training and Peer Mentorship: Trains new clinical staff on established office workflows and serves as an onboarding resource to maintain operational consistency across the medical assistant team.
- Practice Maintenance and Inventory Control: Stocks patient examination rooms, monitors expiration dates of clinical supplies, and proactively informs the manager of clinical supply needs to assist with inventory ordering.

- Knowledge of outpatient clinical workflows, medical terminology, and EMR documentation practices.
- Skill in obtaining accurate patient vital signs, performing EKGs, and assisting with minor clinical procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Ability to work independently to prioritize daily clinical tasks and manage assigned workflow dashboards.
- Proficiency in utilizing standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Compensation Range:
$17.07- $24.04
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
