Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Room (ER)

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room (ER) Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights (Every Other Weekend) Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Emergency Department/Emergency Room Nursing License: Active RN License Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS Must-Have Skills: - Two years of experience in an Emergency Department - Ability to manage patients with a variety of conditions, including trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac issues - Proficiency in reading ECG rhythms - Experience with medical equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen

Description: Candidates are not eligible if they have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the past year. The emergency room has 243 beds and trauma bays. There is a fast track system in place. A separate triage area exists, and travelers may occasionally be required to perform triage duties. Patients in the emergency room are intermixed with holds, and nurses care for their own holds. There are no separate psych or seclusion rooms available in the emergency room. In-house security is present. The average patient volume is between 80-90 per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and either ENPC or PALS. Common patient diagnoses handled include trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac issues. Emergency room staff includes both charge nurses and house supervisors. The workflow in the emergency room involves nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters. Respiratory therapy staff is responsible for conducting ABGs and breathing treatments. There is no telemetry technician, so RNs must be proficient in reading ECG rhythms. Radiological services such as X-Ray and CT are available adjacent to the emergency department. Phlebotomy may be performed by technicians or registered nurses. Scheduling is self-managed with options for day and night shifts, including various shift times. Weekend work is required every other week, along with holiday shifts every other year. There is no on-call or standby requirement. Floating to qualified units may be required. The designated scrubs color is navy. Unit/department-specific orientation is provided. The cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks.
