Spokane Veterans Home Help us continue to fulfill our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by providing essential quality of life care for our Veterans! We are now accepting applications for a Registered Nurse 2 On-Call at the Spokane Veterans Home! Homes 24/7 facility differential: Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step W. Step X has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. "On-call" is defined as positions where the work is intermittent in nature, is sporadic and does not fit a particular pattern. On-Call employees are utilized to support operational staffing needs. Shifts for on-call staff are scheduled on a rotational basis. The on-call expectations for this position requires that staff be available to work as needed, with a minimum availability of three shifts per week, on two different shifts. Hybrid/Telework: This position is not eligible for telework.

You will also assist and monitor assigned residents with activities of daily living based on current nursing standards of practice and with a heart for our mission. Duties Some of what you'll do:
- Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do their own or monitor self-pour medications of residents.
- Maintain incident log and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit.
- Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs and requirements in a respectful and homelike environment.
- Maintain open communication and information-sharing with staff.
- Assist in the presentation of training materials to staff.
- Perform nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by the condition of the resident, and on a quarterly basis for the completion of the Minimum Data Set.
- Assume responsibility for self-development by awareness of new techniques and medications.
- Make rounds on a regular basis to ensure compliance with expectations of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
- Currently holds a valid RN license from the State of Washington.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
- One year of professional nursing experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Experience must be relevant to the position.
- Must be able to use accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods, record keeping, report preparation, infection control procedures and resident rights.
- Must be able to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care. Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate. Perform selected nursing procedures.
- Must be proficient in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
- Agency Required Competencies for all positions:
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
- One year of experience as an RN.
- Must be able to provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs; follow written and verbal directions; document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
- Must be able to earn trust, respect and confidence of residents, coworkers and customers through consistent honesty, forthright and professionalism in all interactions. Serve as an effective and positive role model to staff.
- Long term care experience.
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Remain current on CPR.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
- Must maintain a valid practical nursing license and provide from the State of Washington Department of Health.
- Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
- Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
- Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
- Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
