Senior Network Analyst

Overview Join Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) as a Senior Network Analyst to lead design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise network systems including LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure. The role is a technical leader responsible for analyzing network performance, troubleshooting complex issues, supporting network security initiatives, and leading network‑related projects. Typical Tasks Lead and participate in managing projects, including directing small to large network projects. Train customers, staff, and others as needed in formal or informal settings. Coordinate, configure, install, and maintain local area, wide area, and wireless networks. Measure volume and performance of network traffic. Analyze network problems and implement solutions. Monitor network operations and configurations to improve performance. Review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures, identifying and resolving problems. Develop and implement system improvements to enhance operational efficiencies. Identify equipment requirements and develop specifications for enterprise network designs. Install, maintain, and upgrade control‑program software for routers, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment. Recommend and install additional or replacement routers, switches, firewalls, and other equipment. Document installation and configuration procedures. Communicate project status, resolving issues, problems, and changes, and prepare status reports. Manage projects using VTA personnel, consultants, and vendors as needed. Monitor project expenditures and purchase equipment, recommending adjustments. Ensure network projects are completed and meet objectives. Monitor and validate security of VTA networks and combat intrusions. Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and staff as needed. Maintain technical competency in the applications used by the department. Perform related duties as required. Employment Standards Sufficient training, education, and experience maintaining computer networks to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to a four‑year degree in computer science or a related field plus four years of increasingly responsible experience in LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. Knowledge of Operational characteristics of LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. Data communication and network principles. Methods and techniques used in data processing, network design, and troubleshooting. Maintaining and managing networks. Advanced network troubleshooting techniques. Network security principles and practices. Analytics of network operation problems and concerns. Diagnostic utilities in multi‑platform environments. Public sector project procurement processes. Work planning and project management techniques. Lead supervision and training practices. Ability to Lead and direct the work of subordinate personnel. Configure and install LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. Evaluate network performance problems and develop cost‑effective solutions. Troubleshoot complex network operating and maintenance problems. Manage and support VTA’s networks. Analyze and assess cost effectiveness of system improvements. Integrate LAN, WAN, and security and management tools into an enterprise solution. Multitask with attention to detail and shift between projects as priorities change. Train customers, staff, and others as needed. Prioritize complex workloads and manage team schedules. Prepare and present comprehensive reports and recommendations. Conduct public sector project procurement processes. Manage multiple projects with personnel across departments, consultants, and vendors. Organize work and manage time effectively. Work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and on call (24/7/365). Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
