Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make an impact supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic K-12 environment throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity is seeking two knowledgeable, dedicated professionals to empower students’ independence and academic growth. With possible flexibility for strong part-time candidates, positions offer opportunities for full-time itinerant assignments, with caseloads thoughtfully divided among elementary, middle, and high school to sustain continuity and meaningful relationships.
You'll join a highly collaborative team where your expertise in Braille, assistive technology, and specialized instructional practices will be valued. Caseloads include students in both general education and specialized settings, allowing for rewarding variety and the chance to make deep connections. Assignments are thoughtfully clustered in nearby schools to help minimize travel time. The district utilizes the TN Pulse platform for efficient IEP management, and you will play an active role in developing and participating in IEP meetings for students.
Qualifications:
- Current and active DOE certification required
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired required for virtual applicants
- Strong proficiency in Braille and use of assistive technology
- Familiarity with assistive technology procurement (via Federal Quota) preferred
- Comfortable traveling between multiple schools within an assigned area
- Demonstrated experience with collaborative IEP planning and implementation
- Fingerprint clearance as mandated
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and consultation to K-12+ students with visual impairments
- Ensure student access to curriculum and technology (including Chromebooks)
- Develop, monitor, and participate in IEPs for assigned students
- Travel between local school sites as assigned (with mileage minimized where possible)
