Litigation Legal Assistant Full Time Professional Seattle, WA, US Salary Range: $60,000.00 To $70,000.00 Annually MacDonald Hoague & Bayless (MHB) is one of Seattle’s oldest and most effective Civil Rights and Immigration Law firms. We are seeking a legal assistant for our Civil Rights practice. The Civil Rights practice is a civil litigation practice with a team of attorneys representing clients in employment and civil rights cases at all stages of litigation. Legal assistants on the Civil Rights team assist attorneys and paralegals with cases at all stages of litigation, from intake through trial. Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the firm, the person hired for this role may also take on limited paralegal duties. Responsibilities may include: Word Processing, service, filing of pretrial and trial pleadings, discovery requests and responses, deposition notices, subpoenas, correspondence, and other legal documents. Docketing/Calendaring – Calendar all litigation deadlines and events, including discovery deadlines, depositions, appearances, meetings, statutes of limitations, filing deadlines, and all other dates and events. Court Rules and Procedures – Obtain and retain knowledge of all applicable local, state, and federal court rules, procedures, filing fees, deadlines, page or word limits, filing pleadings in redacted form or under seal, filing judge’s copies, ensuring documents are treated confidentially, as required, etc. Records Management – Maintain and organize client files, including opening and closing matters, updating electronic and hard-copy files, indexing, ordering labels, etc. Assist in production, receipt, handling, and entry into database management software documents produced in discovery or through the Public Records Act. Trial Assistance – Label and compile trial exhibits, type witness and exhibit lists, compile trial notebooks and assist, arranging for the attendance of witnesses at trial, assist or coordinate trial set-up in court room, make deliveries to court if needed, and type pleadings as needed during trial. Teamwork – Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative staff in a collegial manner. Administrative Tasks – Support attorneys with administrative assistance related to billing, registration for continuing legal education, reimbursement of costs, license renewal, and timekeeping. Occasionally provides backup coverage of front-desk reception. Litigation Support – Review and analyze documents and deposition testimony to assist attorneys with case analysis, motions practice, and trial; interview witnesses; prepare exhibits and questions for depositions; work with vendors to collect electronically-stored information, documents, and other evidence. Minimum Job Qualifications: Three to five years Legal Assistant experience; knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms and documents, legal practices and procedures, and legal docketing/calendaring, serving, and filing pleadings and discovery rules in State and Federal court; proficient typing and grammar skills; trial preparation and e-filing experience a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills and fastidious attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office a plus. Benefits – Our employees are our most important asset!
