Position Summary

The 2nd Shift Operations Manager leads all warehouse and fulfillment activities during second shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This role is responsible for driving execution, managing labor performance, and maintaining service levels in a same-day shipping operation. Shift: 2nd Shift (approx. 3:00 PM–1:00 AM)

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance people leadership, operational discipline, and continuous improvement while holding teams accountable to strict performance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all second-shift warehouse operations, including picking, packing, shipping, and inventory movement.
• Deliver 100% same-day shipping service level by ensuring all eligible orders are processed and shipped within the same day.
• Actively manage Picking UPH (Units Per Hour) by setting clear productivity goals, monitoring performance in real-time, and taking immediate corrective action.
• Own daily P&L performance for the shift, ensuring labor spend, productivity, and efficiency align with budget and cost-per-unit (CPU) targets.
• Supervise, coach, and develop supervisors, leads, and warehouse associates.
• Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and take immediate action to maintain operational flow.
• Drive labor performance and accountability within a cost-per-unit (CPU) environment.
• Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety procedures and conducting daily observations.
• Partner with first-shift leadership to ensure smooth handoff of priorities, volume, and issues.
• Communicate directly with the client as needed regarding service performance and execution.
• Track and report daily shift results, including productivity, quality, staffing, labor utilization, and financial performance.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance speed, quality, and cost performance.
• Promote a culture of accountability, urgency, teamwork, and results.

Qualifications (Required)

• Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
• 5+ years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations (3PL preferred).
• 3+ years of leadership experience in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
• Strong knowledge of order fulfillment, picking, packing, and shipping workflows.
• Proven experience managing productivity metrics such as UPH and labor efficiency.
• Experience managing labor performance against financial targets (P&L, CPU, or similar models).
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office tools.
• Ability to manage performance in a metrics-driven operation.
• Willingness to work a 2nd shift schedule and adapt to changing operational demands.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in same-day shipping or high-urgency fulfillment operations.
• Experience operating within a cost-per-unit (CPU) labor model.
• Prior experience in a client-facing warehouse environment.

Duties

• Lead and supervise warehouse staff, including warehouse supervisors and team members, to ensure efficient order fulfillment, shipping, receiving, and inventory management during the 2nd shift.
• Oversee transportation planning and freight management, including coordination with third-party logistics providers (3PL) and NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) operations.
• Implement process improvement initiatives utilizing Lean principles and supply chain analytics to enhance operational efficiency and reduce waste.
• Manage inventory control systems using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems such as AS400, and other supply chain management tools to maintain accurate stock levels.
• Monitor budget adherence, perform demand planning, and oversee procurement activities including purchasing and vendor negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards by conducting regular safety audits, supervising forklift operations, and enforcing warehouse safety protocols.
• Drive continuous improvement projects focused on operational excellence, process standardization, and supply chain optimization across all functions.

Skills

• Proven experience in operations management within a warehouse or distribution environment with supervising experience.
• Strong knowledge of supply chain management concepts including inventory management, shipping & receiving, warehouse distribution, and freight logistics.
• Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems like AS400, and supply chain analytics tools.
• Expertise in process improvement methodologies such as Lean and continuous improvement strategies.
• Ability to manage budgets effectively while overseeing production planning and demand forecasting.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, supervise staff, and foster a collaborative work environment.
