DIRECTOR - CATEGORY MANAGEMENT

Overview Category Management includes contract management responsibility for medical supplies, non‑medical supplies, and purchased services with a focus on "best value" and Total Cost of Ownership. Provides senior leadership to the Category Management team and Value Based Selection program to ensure unparalleled value is provided to internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities Creates and deploys a category management strategy that positions the category management team as the trusted advisor to stakeholders; and leads Non‑Labor Spend (NLS) program to include savings and contract review/approval. Works proactively with the Category Management team, enterprise leadership, and stakeholders to deliver effective business solutions in Category Leadership, market insights, and strategic sourcing methods. Works within the Value Based Selection framework to facilitate supply chain leadership to attain an optimal balance of quality, service, reliability, sustainability, diversity, and value. The Director leads and collaborates with Supply Chain, Finance, Accounts Payable, Master Data Management, IT Services, internal customers and external suppliers to develop and maintain efficient, accurate and scalable Sourcing processes to support the Enterprise. Provides senior leadership to ensure team maintains accurate and up to date pricing files, negotiates pricing agreements and service contracts with a focus on TCO, reliability, diversity, sustainability, and value. Ensures appropriate policies and procedures are in place and adhered to, protects hospital assets related to negotiation and contract execution. Leads and supports the item recall process and team focus on customer service. Creates desirable employee work environment that enhances employee engagement. Develops and encourages strong relationships with internal stakeholders both within Supply Chain and across the Enterprise. Identifies opportunities to improve service levels and processes to achieve high customer satisfaction. Maintains, and develops strategic partnerships with the supplier base. Develops and implements performance measures and quality measures to ensure high service levels while maintaining cost effectiveness. Develops and implements strategic plans with supplier partners to ensure "Total Value" goals measured by cost, quality, sustainability, resilience and diversity are achieved or exceeded. Partners with Purchasing, Master Data Management, and Accounts Payable to ensure accuracy of vendor files. Creates strategies as well as tactical planning around the implementation of process and technology improvements. Monitors key performance indicators and financial reports to ensure compliance with budgets and standards. Champions projects and initiatives with cross‑departmental and Enterprise‑wide impact. Develops strategic and operational relationships with Group Purchasing Organization (GPO); leads the team to goals established with the GPO and ensures GPO contracts align with appropriate tier levels. Oversees contract formation with critical vendors, including negotiation, administration, and ongoing management of vendor relationships, ensuring vendors’ performance meet enterprise expectations. Provides senior leadership over the NLS Management Subcommittees to achieve targeted success. Provides senior leadership over the Non‑Labor Savings Management Subcommittees and leads savings initiatives across all supported Stanford Medicine entities. Documents and communicates savings success and engages stakeholders in needed process change or product conversion. Works closely with key stakeholders to develop effective cost reduction strategies; leading teams to analyze products, services and contracts with the goal of attaining the best value decision. Directs team activities with contract administration, price analysis and vendor negotiations; monitors, evaluates, and manages contract volume, supply chain information system performance, and value‑based selection reporting and outcomes. Leads and facilitates implementation of new or modified policies and procedures based on the Enterprise best practices and compliance with Federal, State, and regulatory agencies. Recruit, mentor, and develop team. Establish clear roles and expectations, foster a collaborative and innovative culture, and provide ongoing professional development to ensure team members are empowered to meet program objectives and drive cross‑functional success. Performs other related and incidental duties as needed or assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of relevant experience in Strategic Sourcing, Contract Administration, Vendor Management and/or Procurement. 7+ years of experience in leading high performance and goal‑oriented teams. Healthcare experience desirable. Experience working with a GPO preferred. Experience managing large‑scale initiatives desirable. Experience simultaneously managing multiple initiatives essential. Knowledge of leading industry standards and best practice. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to be sensitive to the needs of customers through the practice of quality service principles. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to persuade internal and external stakeholders. Ability to develop, implement, and lead long‑range business plans and strategies. Ability to manage complex relationships with critical internal and external partners. Ability to strategize, plan, lead and implement change. Ability to understand, draft and negotiate Contractual Agreements and Pricing Agreements. Ability to work effectively both as a team leader and partner. Knowledge and understanding of financial and statistical activity reports. Knowledge of basic accounting principles. Knowledge of automated supply chain functions. Knowledge of basic legal principles. Knowledge of project management processes and systems. Licenses and Certifications Not specified. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
