Defense Litigation Legal Assistant

Job Summary

A nationally recognized legal services organization is seeking an experienced Defense Litigation Legal Assistant for a full-time, direct hire opportunity in Memphis, TN. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented legal professional with strong defense litigation support experience and a solid understanding of state and federal court procedures.

The Defense Litigation Legal Assistant will support attorneys handling sophisticated labor, employment, and defense litigation matters. Key Responsibilities

- Support attorneys through all phases of defense litigation, including discovery, hearings, arbitrations, mediations, depositions, and trial preparation.
- Manage attorney calendars, litigation deadlines, correspondence, client communications, and coordination with courts, opposing counsel, vendors, and outside parties.
- Prepare, format, proofread, revise, and electronically file legal documents in state and federal courts.
- Assist with document review, production, Bates numbering, redactions, and organization of physical and electronic case files.
- Coordinate depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and litigation-related meetings while ensuring deadlines and logistics are handled accurately.
- Support conflict checks, client intake procedures, expense reports, time entry revisions, and other administrative litigation needs.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000 per year.
- Full-time, direct hire opportunity.
- Onsite position in Memphis, TN 38120.
- Monday through Friday schedule with a 40-hour workweek plus a one-hour lunch break.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support defense litigation attorneys with discovery, hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
- Manage litigation calendars, deadlines, court filings, correspondence, and case-related communications.
- Prepare, proofread, revise, and e-file legal documents in state and federal courts.
- Assist with document production, Bates numbering, redactions, and case file management.

- Minimum 4 years of defense litigation legal assistant experience required.
- Experience supporting litigation matters in state and federal courts.
- Knowledge of Tennessee and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Experience with discovery, trial preparation, hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
- Experience with e-filing, Bates numbering, document redaction, and document production.
- Typing speed of at least 65 WPM.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong proofreading, writing, grammar, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound professional judgment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and support staff.
- Defense litigation experience is required. Plaintiff-side litigation experience alone will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

- Employment defense litigation experience.
- Labor and employment law experience.
- Experience supporting attorneys before administrative agencies.
- Experience with electronic document management systems.
- Time entry and legal billing software experience.
- Associate or bachelor's degree.
