Senior Specialist, Global Engineering Solutions (GES)

Merck seeks a Senior Specialist in Global Engineering Solutions to lead process design, execution, and startup for small molecule high-potency API projects at its Rahway, New Jersey facility. The role involves capital project delivery, technical design leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with operations, engineering, and vendor teams.

Responsibilities

• Interface with integrated project teams to deliver capital projects aligned with business objectives
• Lead technical design workshops and equipment specification activities with end users
• Perform technical reviews of engineering designs for compliance with standards and safety requirements
• Provide subject matter expertise in process hazard analysis and hazard and operability studies
• Serve as primary interface between capital projects and equipment vendors for commercial and technical matters

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent life sciences qualification
• Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience in engineering, technology, or manufacturing
• Core knowledge of API manufacturing equipment and containment engineering controls
• Expertise in process hazard analysis, change control, P&ID development, and regulatory compliance
• Equipment lifecycle and capital project stage-gate process experience
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and technical communication skills
• Familiarity with Lean design principles and standard work implementation
