Yosemite Pathology is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

 

YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.

 

Summary/Objective

The Histology Department Supervisor must have a deep understanding of Histology Department workflow and priorities and uphold the company values of Yosemite Pathology. This position is responsible for cutting, staining, quality control, and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review. Additional responsibilities are prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. This position provides oversight to Histology Department staff and is responsible for providing daily technical guidance/support, training, and implementing best practices for optimal workflow and quality.

Shift: Monday - Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm

Essential Functions

• Performing all daily technical bench functions of the Histology Department while providing daily guidance on workflow and prioritization of Department tasks
• Check "H&E", special stains, and IHC controls for stain quality
• Setting up, cleaning, and maintenance of instruments
• Retrieving correct blocks and slides for any request from Pathologist
• Maintain special stains and IHC control banks
• Performing training, competency assessments, and annual performance evaluations for Histology staff
• Assist in inventory maintenance for the histology department
• Basic understanding of H&E stain
• Knowledge and understanding of special stains and IHCs
• Perform troubleshooting and problem solving as necessary to determine and resolve technical issues.
• Communicate clearly with staff, Pathologists, and Assistant Director of Laboratory Services
• Ensure the Histology Department remains in compliance with all CLIA regulatory guidelines

Job Requirements and Skills

• 2 - 4 years of Histology experience
• ASCP HT Certification (or in process of obtaining)
• Associates Degree in Biology or related field (Preferred)
• Strong communication skills, verbally and written.
• Manual Dexterity and strong attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask and pay attention to detail
• Foster teamwork, problem solve and demonstrate critical thinking and conflict resolution skills
• Work under pressure sometimes in stressful situations
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Documentation skills, ability to research and resolve issues
• Ability to multi-task with a results-oriented paradigm in a fast-pace, high volume environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Strong Excel and Word skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to make quick decisions
• Focus on quality for the best patient care
• Intermediate computer skills
• Laboratory Information System experience a plus

 

Compensation and Benefits

• The compensation is $80,000 - $95,000 annually paid semi-monthly on an eight (8) hour per day, forty (40) hour per week. Final salary offer subject to multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, geographic location of the role, and current market data.

Work Environment

This position operates in a laboratory environment and involves frequent standing and exposure to hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
