Administration / Production Control Technician

Location: New York, NY

Work Schedule

This position follows a 3-day work week , with consecutive 12.5-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM . The schedule includes weekends and holidays, with workdays rotating according to a predetermined schedule.

• Weeks 1–4: Monday through Wednesday
• Weeks 5–8: Thursday through Saturday
• The rotation continues according to the established schedule.

Job Summary

The Financial Information Services Agency (FISA) is seeking an Administration / Production Control Technician reporting to the Night Shift Supervisor.

The technician will be responsible for monitoring job flows controlled by the CA Workload Automation DE (dSeries) scheduling system. Jobs may execute on z/OS mainframe, UNIX, or PeopleSoft servers .

The ideal candidate will have experience with production control, enterprise job scheduling, batch processing, and troubleshooting across mainframe and/or mid-range environments. The technician must be able to respond quickly to job failures, determine the general cause of issues, and coordinate with the appropriate on-call staff for remediation.

The position may also require occasional software migration to production and/or test environments, documenting problems, establishing job-flow dependencies, and executing and troubleshooting test flows.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor production job flows using CA Workload Automation DE (dSeries) or a similar enterprise scheduling platform.
• Monitor jobs executing on z/OS mainframe, UNIX, and PeopleSoft environments.
• Respond promptly to job failures and determine the general cause of production issues.
• Contact and coordinate with appropriate on-call technical staff for issue remediation.
• Escalate critical job failures and scheduling issues as appropriate.
• Document production problems, job failures, and resolution activities.
• Establish and maintain job-flow dependencies.
• Execute and troubleshoot test flows.
• Perform preliminary troubleshooting of schedulers, batch processes, and cycle flows.
• Occasionally migrate software to production and/or test environments.
• Support production control operations and ensure scheduled processing completes successfully.
• Work with technical teams to resolve scheduling, batch, and infrastructure-related issues.
• Follow established SDLC and production-control procedures.

Preferred Skills

• Extensive experience working in Production Control environments involving mainframe or mid-range computer systems.
• Experience establishing and managing job dependencies.
• Experience troubleshooting JCL errors .
• Experience working with GDGs, File-AID, and IDCAMS .
• Knowledge of CA Workload Automation DE (dSeries) or a similar enterprise scheduling package.
• Strong knowledge of z/OS JCL and TSO/ISPF .
• Experience with mainframe compile, link, and bind procedures.
• Familiarity with file transfer protocols and technologies such as FTPS and Connect:Direct .
• Knowledge of UNIX environments.
• Knowledge of IMS and DB2 .
• Knowledge of PuTTY and WinSCP .
• Familiarity with Rational tools, including ClearQuest and ClearCase .
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel .
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft PeopleTools , particularly Process Monitor.
• Strong understanding of standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Required Experience

• 3–5 years of related scheduling experience with a Windows-based scheduling system.
• 5 years of experience escalating and documenting critical job failures and scheduling problems.
• 5 years of hands-on experience executing and performing preliminary troubleshooting activities involving:
  • Job schedulers
  • Batch processes
  • Cycle flows

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus 4 years of satisfactory full-time experience related to data center engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering.
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college plus 8 years of satisfactory full-time experience related to data center engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, or complex IT infrastructure engineering.
3. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to either of the qualifications above.
