Director of Planning and Engineering – Lead Structural Engineering Operations for Alpha Structural, Inc.

The Opportunity :

You will serve as an executive leader overseeing engineering, drafting, and permitting operations for Southern California's premier design-build firm. This role allows you to direct high-stakes engineering projects while driving continuous operational efficiency and mentoring a skilled technical team. You will directly shape the success, technical accuracy, and execution of long-lasting structural solutions.

How You Will Make an Impact:

• Lead and manage all daily engineering, drafting, and plan permitting operations to keep projects on schedule.
• Review and approve structural calculations, engineering plans, redlines, and technical submittals.
• Mentor and develop engineers, drafters, and permitting personnel to maintain high standards of technical excellence.
• Perform structural observations and site visits to resolve complex field revisions in real time.
• Direct departmental performance metrics, production schedules, engineering budgets, and revenue targets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with production, project management, and sales teams to align departmental workflow.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Active California Structural Engineer (SE) license.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering design and review.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering leadership or executive management role.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing plan check submittals, permitting, and engineering workflows.
• Strong knowledge of California Building Code (CBC), ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, and engineering standards.
• Hands-on proficiency using AutoCAD or Revit software for technical oversight.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Extensive experience designing structural systems across concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and foundation systems.
• Proven track record leading multi-departmental operations within a high-volume design-build environment.
