Job Title: Diesel Yard Truck Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on performing preventive maintenance and repair on yard trucks, with an emphasis on diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and emission systems. You will diagnose issues, complete repairs, and document all work accurately while following strict safety standards in a port-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on yard trucks to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, battery systems, and related components.
• Conduct diagnostics and repairs on computer-controlled and emission systems, including DPF/DEF components.
• Execute welding and fabrication tasks as needed to support repairs and maintenance.
• Repair, adjust, and maintain air brake systems to meet safety and performance standards.
• Use diagnostic tools and basic computer applications to identify issues and document repairs.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Lift, move, and handle parts and equipment weighing up to 70 lbs as part of daily tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the service leadership team to support shop and yard operations.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel mechanics or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
• Welding experience, including the ability to perform basic fabrication tasks.
• Familiarity with DPF/DEF systems and emission-related components.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Basic computer skills for diagnostics, service documentation, and record-keeping.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Current DOT/Medical card certification.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks such as stooping, climbing, and kneeling.
• Capability to work safely in an outdoor, port-based environment while following all safety protocols.

• Ownership of a complete set of quality hand tools (preferred).
• Experience working on yard trucks, port equipment, or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
• Comfort using diagnostic software and electronic tools to troubleshoot vehicle systems.
• Strong attention to detail when documenting maintenance and repair activities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced operational setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a port environment where you will work primarily outdoors and be exposed to the elements. You will operate around yard trucks and heavy equipment, using tools and diagnostic technology to perform maintenance and repairs. The role is on 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with a mandatory half shift on Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You will use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety procedures at all times while working in and around active yard operations.

The pay range for this position is $43860.00 - $72800.00/yr.
