Job Description and Duties

THIS IS A LIMITED TERM POSITION WHICH MAY BE EXTENDED OR BECOME PERMANENT.

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

Under the direction of the Employment Development Administrator or a Section Manager, the Office Technician provides in-depth clerical support for the office, the manager, and the management team. Independently performs complex and highly technical clerical duties, including composing and typing original letters and local office form letters. Exercises a high degree of initiative and independence in performing assigned tasks. Represents the manager and the office in contact with the general public, as well as within the Department and the Branch. Handles complex correspondence, which may be sensitive or confidential in nature. Is responsible for establishing and maintaining all office filing systems. Acts as the office's personnel/payroll/attendance clerk and supply clerk. Participates in Total Quality Management (TQM) projects and processes. Demonstrates an awareness of the Department and Branch vision, mission, values, and goals.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

Background Investigation Requirement

The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.

The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department. The department will consider potential mitigating factors, including, but not limited to, evidence and extent of rehabilitation, recency, nature and seriousness, and age at the time of the offense(s).

The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies. Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process. A criminal conviction may not result in an automatic determination of "Not Qualified."
