Position Summary

As a Distribution System Operator at Oncor, you're responsible for the safe operation of the distribution system. This position identifies and initiates corrective action as needed in a timely manner to optimize operating conditions including service restoration procedures while working under minimal supervision.

This position will be on-site 5 days per week based at the location listed- East Distribution Operations Center (DOC).

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures the distribution system is operated within established company loading and safety guidelines.
• Assists in the direction of distribution service restoration procedures to restore service in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.
• Assists in monitoring load and initiates corrective action for load abnormalities on distribution facilities to ensure proper load flow and adequate voltage levels under direct supervision.
• Maintains a daily log on all events occurring on the distribution system to assist in future operation of the system, developing a history to assist in planning and design of facilities, and complying with regulations.
• Assists in the preparation of work clearances on distribution lines and substation equipment to assure safety to employees and ensure consumers are not interrupted while minimizing impact on system security.
• This position requires being available 24/7 for shift coverage and emergency situations.
• Participates and completes assigned training activities.
• Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Work Expectations

• The position is in a diverse work group operating 24-hours a day through rotating shifts, regular scheduled Holidays, weekends and overtime.
• Rotating shifts: 0600-1400, 1400-2200, 2200-0600
• 40 hour weeks, with opportunities for overtime
• The position requires overtime both on call-out and holdover during emergency conditions and shift coverage.
• Work a regular full-time schedule.
• Be flexible and adaptable.

In addition to the above-mentioned, Senior Distribution System Operator responsibilities include:

• Directs distribution service restoration activities to restore service in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.
• Monitors load and initiates corrective actions for abnormalities on distribution facilities to ensure proper load flow and adequate voltage levels.

Skills:

• Possess strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, and inclusive manner.
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Effective communications with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience with the use of Microsoft Office products.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
• Applicants with Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or greater in an electrically related field are encouraged to apply.

For Distribution System Operator:

• 4+ years of experience in a power distribution role or other related experience is required.
• Applicants with Distribution Operations and/or Distribution field experience are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants with Craft Advancement Progression Skills (CAPS) or Distribution Lineman Training (DLT) certification are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants with Military experience within an operations center are encouraged to apply.

For Senior Distribution System Operator:

• 2+ years in a Distribution System Operator role and successful completion of applicable System Operator training requirements is required.

Measure of Success:

• Become knowledgeable of distribution facilities within the operating area.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of operating and control procedures and of safety hazards associated with switching high voltage systems.
• Gain knowledge of the operating characteristics of all switching and control devices.
• Gain knowledge in Distribution Management System and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control systems.
• Gain knowledge of Black start, Short Supply, Emergency Service Restoration, and System Emergency Operation Procedures and develop skills necessary to carry out these plans with short notice.
• Timely and successful completion of training activities.
• Timely dispatching of system events.
• Safe operation of the system.
• Maintaining the integrity of switching devices and mapping activities.
• Works well within the group.
• Responsive to work load demands.
