Adjunct Instructor - Art

Job Summary Adjunct Faculty are professional educators who work on a limited basis and have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the Texas Southmost College’s (TSC) mission, vision, values and goals of providing a quality education for all students enrolled at the College. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. Adjunct Faculty members are responsible to the College President through a chain of command and accountable to the College’s policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan an optimal learning environment, provide high‑quality instruction and advising, participate in the development and assessment of learning outcomes, and engage in ongoing professional development. Ensure accurate syllabi are developed that incorporate departmental, college, and instructor requirements; maintain attendance records, submit grades, and provide constructive feedback throughout the semester. Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Assume primary responsibility for curriculum development in conjunction with the College’s policies, ensuring rigor and quality of instruction and considering individual student differences to design and support a range of learning activities. Use the College’s digital learning solution to meet course objectives and communicate clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of the College’s digital learning solution and other available technologies. Integrate concrete, real‑life situations into learning experiences to encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills and teamwork; employ methods that develop student understanding of discipline‑specific thinking, practices and procedures, and interdisciplinary applications. Collaborate with colleagues across the College to construct and continuously improve measurable learning outcomes, including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) core curriculum objectives and additional TSC objectives. Design assessments that measure or demonstrate student growth, sequence learning opportunities to build understanding and knowledge, and align assessment with learning opportunities. Support TSC’s institutional effectiveness program by understanding the preparation and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Student Outcomes Assessment Plans (SOAPs); complete all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits; share best practices; and strive for improved educational effectiveness. Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, interaction, and support for learners. Be available to students during the designated work period, refer them to appropriate support services, and pursue professional development by taking graduate courses, internal classes, or professional development organizations as required. Participate collegially in discipline‑specific activities for adjunct faculty, handle sensitive and extensive confidential information, attend the workplace regularly, and follow a work schedule to meet demands. Complete duties in compliance with college standards, policies, and guidelines; promote positive morale and teamwork; provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and the community; use interpersonal skills to make sound judgments. Complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by TSC; support the values and institutional goals of the Strategic Plan and aid in systematic review and evaluation of the planning unit. Work during evenings, holidays, weekends, or special events as required and perform duties in a high‑tech all‑digital environment.
