If you share in these beliefs and values, if you have a proven willingness to do what it takes for students to be their best, if you thrive in an environment that is both collaborative and entrepreneurial, then you are already a KIPPster.Job DescriptionPosition Overview The Assistant Principal of Student Support Services will be responsible for managing and coaching support services teachers and interventionists, managing related services, leading the Response to Intervention (RTI) program, providing professional development and resources to all staff in the areas of Special Education, intervention, and teaching English Language Learners. Additionally, this role will serve as a member of the School Leadership Team. Each school-based AP of Student Support Services will work closely with the Director of Student Support Services and Manager of English Learner Support Services, roles on KIPP Nashville’s School Support Team. ”Day in the life” responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Management of Student Support ServicesManage and coach Special Education Teachers to ensure all IEP goals are met and that we close the achievement gap between students with disabilities and general education students.Ensure compliance with all special education and ELL laws and regulations, including managing IEP caseloads as needed. Oversee a comprehensive Response to Intervention program (management of the program can be done by an interventionist, but oversight is provided by the Dean of Student Support Services)Manage and coach interventionists and ELL teachers to ensure effective instructionEnsure all ELL students have an ILP that is updated quarterly by EL certified staff.Manage all related service providers, including OT, PT, Speech/Language, psychologists, the nurse, and contracted ABA supportCreate testing accommodations and alternative assessment schedules and oversee that all students requiring testing accommodations receive them consistently. Works with the Dean of Students to create behavior RTI plans, oversee and advise on discipline for students with disabilities. Professional Development for StaffPlan, implement, and provide ongoing professional development and feedback to all staff, focusing on differentiation and supporting students with varying needsConduct classroom observations with other Assistant Principals with a specific focus on improving access, growth and achievement of students with special needs and English Language LearnersOrganize summer training and weekly professional development days in coordination with the Principal and other Assistant Principals Teacher CoachingConduct classroom observations and follow-up with targeted feedback to special education teachers and interventionists to increase efficacy of instructionConduct weekly one on one conversations with direct reports, including time for relationship building, gathering feedback, assessing individual needs, and providing feedbackProvide lesson plan feedback to direct reportsAs needed, consult on lesson plan strategies for differentiation to all staff membersConduct twice a year teacher performance evaluationTeach classes when necessary to avoid gaps in mandated services or for professional development of teachers.School-Wide LeadershipParticipate in the teacher recruitment and hiring process, in collaboration with the Principal.Serve as an active member of the School Leadership Team, meeting weekly for strategic planning and discussion of school initiatives and dataQualificationsQualifications:Currently possess an active Special Education and/or ELL license5+ years of Special Education and/or ELL teaching experience1+ one year of adult management/teacher coachingModel of effective and high-quality teachingExcellent organization skills and ability to create effective schedulesAn analytical view of student progress towards standards; skilled in data collection, analysis and presentationExcellent communicator, who can work with internal and external stakeholdersDemonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of special education studentsDemonstrated success developing academic programs and academic cultureDemonstrated success planning staff professional development and coaching teachers Desired QualitiesUnwavering commitment to KIPP Nashville’s mission, students, families, and communityDemonstrates excitement in growing students into their highest selves and believes that providing students with an excellent education is our largest lever as anti-racist educators for racial equity.Passionate about data-driven instructionExcellent communication skills with diverse constituents; clear writer, facilitator and speaker and eagerness to collaborateEager to receive, implement and offer feedbackAbility to tackle multiple projects and initiatives at once with a strong sense of organization, prioritization, follow through and results Experience and demonstrated success teaching students from educationally under-resourced communities (highly preferred)Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to go above and beyondPossesses an excellence reflex, including both a desire and ability to lead others toward a high bar for excellenceAdditional InformationCompensation & BenefitsSalary is commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. This position is exempt and will work and be compensated according to a 12 month administrative schedule.Robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance policy options. The policy is effective upon the first of the month following the first day of work.Certificated staff have access to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System pension plan(TCRS). Eligible employees contribute 5% and KIPP matches up to 6.81%. Employees may also be eligible for 401k in which KIPP will contribute 5%.The vacation package for salaried employees includes 29 paid days throughout the 12 month work schedule(including holidays, fall break, thanksgiving break, winter break). In addition employees in this role are allotted 6 PTO days as well as 10 additional days to take during the summer break. Employees are allotted an additional 2 days after every 2 consecutive years of employment.
