Registered Nurse (RN) | Cancer Institute Laboratory

Position Highlights May be eligible for a $3000 sign‑on bonus. Pay range: $27.75 – $41.25 per hour. Overview Location: Avera McKennan Hospital – Prairie Center, serving the Avera Cancer Institute clinic patients. Hours: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This location is closed on weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Complete venous and central lab specimen collections for oncology patients. Collect line‑based specimens and perform peripheral vein phlebotomy. Provide front‑line evaluation of patient condition presentations and alert clinicians as needed. Review physician prescriptions, communicate nursing care plans, and coordinate with the healthcare team. Develop nursing care plans: obtain histories, examine patients, document status, establish diagnoses, objectives, and interventions. Teach healthcare requirements and self‑care skills to patients and families. Evaluate patient care against therapeutic standards, review records, and modify care plans as necessary. Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to infection‑control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, controlled‑substance regulations, and legal requirements. Document patient care services through charting in patient and department records. Maintain equipment: follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and manage supplies and orders. Maintain competence in nursing capabilities as directed by leadership. Qualifications Must be able to work the specified hours and meet visual acuity, communication, and hearing requirements. High School or GED equivalent. Registered Nurse (RN) – actively licensed in the state of practice. Preferred: Associate’s Degree (AS) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), 1–3 years of experience in a clinical environment.
