Pre-School Assistant

Job Summary City of Bellevue Crossroads Community Center is seeking a Pre‑School Assistant Teacher for our pre‑school program. The program serves children ages 3‑5. The assistant provides supervision and safety under the guidance of the pre‑school teacher. Responsibilities include checking children in/out, managing a Child Waiver Form, and facilitating art, singing, circle time, exploration and structured games and activities. Duration and Hours Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; the assistant must arrive by 9:00 a.m. A Saturday session is offered the first Saturday each month. CPR/First aid training is provided once a year and attendance is mandatory. Saturday and Sunday are days off. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the teacher in preparing, creating, and adapting instructional materials for seasonal activities. Help assess the needs of the children served. Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies. Understand developmental stages of pre‑school children. Maintain stringent safety procedures at all times. Maintain paperwork such as sign‑in sheets, daily reports, and incident/accident reports. Assist in setting up, cleaning up, and maintaining the classroom daily. Encourage children to follow rules, routines, take turns, share, and use words to resolve conflicts. Assist with circle time and manage transitions between activities. Take children outdoors or to the gym for playtime with the teacher. Report all problems and concerns immediately to the teacher, Recreation Coordinator, or Center Supervisor. Perform other tasks as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 21 years old with a high school diploma. At least two years of experience in recreation activity or program or in the general recreation field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience supervising young children. Enthusiastic, energetic, reliable and trustworthy. Strong oral and written communication skills. Sensitive to the needs of children. Ability to work with diverse populations. Must pass a criminal background check. Must possess or obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date. Physical Demands Walking, talking, hearing, using hands for crafts and games, playing sports, and other physical activities. Indoor and outdoor environment with noise, seasonal heat, adverse weather, and occasional interruptions. Possible exposure to direct sunlight and cool/damp conditions. Strong stamina; may need to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 40 pounds. May need to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must respond effectively to emergencies. Definition of a Variable Employee Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire. Hours may vary depending on prep and clean‑up time. Eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12‑month period (130 hours per month). Conditions of Employment Employment authorization and identity must be established at hire; no work visa sponsorship. Completion of reference checks, including at least one prior supervisor, is required. Criminal background check may be required before start.
