Crisis Intervention Specialist - Per Diem

Position Title MCORT-2 Crisis Intervention Specialist Department MCORT-2: 988 Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Team Location 282 East Main Street, Somerville, NJ 08876 Serving Warren, Hunterdon, and Somerset Counties Employment Type Per Diem Position* Salary $27.00 per hour Work Hours Open to first shift (7am-3pm), second shift (3pm-11pm), or third shift (11pm-7am) Position Overview The Per Diem Crisis Intervention Specialist is a bachelor’s level behavioral health professional responsible for assessing crisis outreach situations, determining the need for additional psychological, psychiatric, or clinical services, and consulting with the Master’s-Level Supervisor via remote connection for supervision and direction. Essential Job Functions Create and maintain a wellness and recovery-oriented environment using person‑first language, respectful documentation, and person‑centered planning. All services promote wellness and recovery outcomes with positive results for persons receiving MCORT services. Maintain a culture of compliance with internal and external policies, regulations, laws, and high ethical standards. Coordinate outreach service with the Peer Support Specialist to ensure timely attendance and engagement of the person in crisis. Communicate with the 988 entity as needed for MCORT dispatch. Utilize assessment tools and skills to evaluate the environment and the person in crisis for mental health and/or substance use‑targeted intervention and referral to ongoing community services. Work with the person, Peer Support Specialist, and, as necessary, the Master’s Level Supervisor to provide the most appropriate crisis intervention service. Incorporate evidence‑based crisis intervention practices during interactions with the person in crisis. Provide person‑centered crisis intervention planning that includes de‑escalation, cognitive behavioral interventions the person can employ off‑site, warm handoffs to community services as needed, and a plan for follow‑up calls to ensure engagement and satisfaction with the MCORT service survey. Record all referrals and warm handoffs as part of the person‑centered crisis intervention plan. Ensure timely documentation in compliance with 988, DMHAS, and Bridgeway policies, including database entry for each dispatch. Respond to mobile crisis outreach in-person anywhere within the region within approximately one hour of dispatch, and ensure the two‑person team addresses at least two outreach responses per scheduled eight‑hour shift. Coordinate with the local PESS for assessment when hospitalization is deemed necessary, in collaboration with the Master’s Level Supervisor; follow DMHAS policies regarding law enforcement/EMS involvement, including 911 dispatch if required. Collaborate with family or significant others as needed to support persons in crisis. Maintain positive relationships with community partners, including medical and behavioral health providers. Other Skills/Abilities Proficiency in crisis intervention and de‑escalation skills specific to mental health and substance use crisis intervention, suicide training/Zero Suicide, assessment, and communication of crisis situations to remote team members for planning. Requirements Education/Certificates Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a mental health related field (psychology, social work, counseling, etc.) required. Two‑year post‑BA/BS professional experience in the mental health field; experience in a crisis setting preferred. Driver’s License & Vehicle Valid driver’s license required. No more than one moving violation within the past 12 months. Personal vehicle required.
