About the Role

The Company is seeking a Head of E&S Excess Liability Underwriting, a senior leadership role with a strong focus on underwriting strategy, profitability, and team management. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of 7 underwriters, setting the underwriting vision, and driving profitable growth within the E&S Excess Liability book. This role requires a player-coach approach, with a hands-on involvement in complex accounts, coverage structure, and broker relationships. The Head will also be tasked with maintaining clear appetite boundaries, structuring layered excess solutions, and actively managing portfolio performance. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years' experience in E&S or specialty casualty/excess liability underwriting, with a significant background in a wholesale/non-admitted environment. Technical skills should include a deep knowledge of commercial excess and umbrella underwriting, coverage structure, and experience with a diverse class mix. The role demands a strong leader with excellent communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills, who is data-driven and has a high accountability orientation. The Head will also be responsible for cultivating relationships with key wholesale broker partners, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing market feedback to inform product and pricing strategy.
