Senior Engineering Manager

Opportunity Senior Engineering Manager – onsite in Abbott Diabetes Care Division. Location: Buffalo Grove, IL or Austin, TX. This role oversees overall operations engineering activities at a manufacturing site(s), ensuring consistent manufacturing quality and operational excellence. What You’ll Do Lead end‑to‑end project management to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget. Ensure performance, output, and continuous improvement of automated line/processes. Oversee and manage all operations engineering activities across multiple product lines and shifts. Anticipate and resolve high‑level issues and conflicts impacting operations success. Make difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects/programs. Anticipate and mitigate strategic and tactical risks through early assessment. Set and monitor performance and value indicators, lead project audits, and adjust as required. Accountable for operational efficiencies and optimisations into manufacturing processes. Cultivate open, honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors. Drive department financial budget planning and generation of multi‑year planning. Hire, retain, and develop a diverse, highly qualified engineering team. Support development of new and existing products, materials, and manufacturing processes. Lead cross‑functional relationships with R&D, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory, and other departments. Ensure compliance with FDA, GMP, and other regulatory requirements. Uphold company initiatives and ensure compliance with QMS, EMS, and EH&S requirements. Experience You’ll Bring Required Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience. Minimum 8 years of significant engineering, project management, and/or operational experience. Extensive experience managing operations engineering activities at a manufacturer site, preferably in a highly regulated industry. Proven track record of leading large‑scale automated manufacturing lines with a focus on performance and continuous improvement. Experience in team management, including hiring, development, and succession planning for a diverse engineering workforce. Lead large, complex project components (scope, schedule, budgets, risk register, etc.). Strong knowledge of FDA, GMP, Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, and QMS & EMS. Deep understanding of automated manufacturing processes within a manufacturing site context. Expertise in project management, budgeting, scheduling, and cross‑functional collaboration. Leadership skills in building, managing, and developing high‑performing engineering teams. Familiarity with strategic planning and implementation within a global, matrixed organization. Excellent communication skills and ability to present and obtain buy‑in from upper management. Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences while optimizing divisional goals. Technical background in health care, nutrition, diagnostics, medical devices, or pharmaceuticals. The base pay for this position is $129,300.00 – $258,700.00.
