CNC Machinist 1st Shift

The CNC Machinist sets up, troubleshoots, and operates Haas vertical mills to produce mostly one-off parts and light production orders. You will perform multiple daily setups with a strong focus on custom tooling retainers, working from blueprints and using precision measuring tools to ensure high-quality, accurate parts. This role involves machining a variety of metals in a clean, climate-controlled job shop environment on a steady 1st shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Haas vertical mills for mostly one-off parts and light production orders.
• Perform approximately four to eight machine setups per day, with a primary focus on custom tooling retainers.
• Read and interpret blueprints to understand part specifications, tolerances, and machining requirements.
• Use micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
• Conduct changeovers efficiently between different jobs and part configurations to support job shop operations.
• Work with diverse metals, including cold-rolled steel, A2 tooling steel, and aluminum fixtures, adjusting machining parameters as needed.
• Enter coordinates and read M code on simple controllers to set up and run CNC programs accurately.
• Monitor machine performance and product quality, identifying and resolving issues through effective troubleshooting.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a climate-controlled, job shop environment.
• Collaborate with team members to meet production goals while upholding safety and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• 23 years of experience operating, setting up, and troubleshooting CNC mills.
• Hands-on experience with CNC setup and changeovers in a job shop or similar environment.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot Haas vertical mills or comparable CNC milling equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints for machining operations.
• Experience entering coordinates and reading M code on simple CNC controllers.
• Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures for quality control.
• Ability to work with various metals, including cold-rolled steel, A2 tooling steel, and aluminum fixtures.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving machining issues.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts.
• Ability to work independently on 1st shift while meeting production and quality expectations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with CNC lathes is a valuable plus.
• SurfCAM knowledge or other CNC programming experience is preferred.
• Comfort working in a job shop environment with frequent changeovers and varied parts.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a close-knit team.
• Willingness to work voluntary overtime when available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $64480.00/yr.
