Attorney - Employment Law

Full service high volume regional law firm with five offices across New York State is seeking a dedicated Attorney to join our legal team with a primary focus on employment law matters. The Attorney will provide expert legal advice, manage client relationships, draft and review legal documents, and represent clients in dispute resolution and litigation as needed. This role prioritizes strong employment law knowledge and analytical skills, and supports both advisory and advocacy functions to protect client interests and achieve favorable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise clients on a wide range of employment law issues including discrimination, wage and hour disputes, wrongful termination, workplace policies, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, policies, settlement agreements, severance packages, and internal investigation reports.
• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other court filings relevant to employment and related litigation.
• Represent clients in administrative proceedings, mediations, arbitration, and court hearings; manage litigation strategy and case preparation when litigation is pursued.
• Manage client relationships by providing timely communication, case updates, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations tailored to client objectives.
• Collaborate with internal teams and outside counsel on cross-functional matters, including company-wide employment policy updates, training, and preventive risk management.
• Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and comply with firm policies and ethical obligations, including client confidentiality and conflict checks.
• Stay current on changes in employment law, regulations, and precedent; propose updates to practice approaches and client advisories as necessary.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
• 2+ years of experience and strong knowledge in commercial litigation; proven ability to advise clients on workplace issues and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; experience drafting pleadings, agreements, and legal memoranda.
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload, prioritize deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong client-service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable representing clients in negotiations, administrative proceedings, and court; litigation experience is preferred.
• Nice-to-have: experience in Labor and Employment matters, Commercial Litigation, and a track record handling complex disputes in these areas.
• High standard of professionalism, ethics, and attention to detail; ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion.
