Experienced Immigration Attorney - Removal Defense & Asylum

We are seeking an experienced immigration attorney with meaningful Immigration Court experience to join and help grow our removal defense and asylum practice. This is a substantive legal role for an attorney who wants meaningful courtroom responsibility, autonomy over case strategy, and the opportunity to handle cases from evaluation through representation. You will work directly with the founding attorney while receiving support from an established immigration legal team. This is not a high-volume processing position. We value thoughtful legal strategy, preparation, accuracy, and quality of representation. There is no client-generation requirement and no billable-hour requirement. What You Will Do You will represent clients in removal proceedings before EOIR and manage cases involving matters such as: Master Calendar Hearings and Individual Merits Hearings Defensive asylum Cancellation of removal Adjustment of status before Immigration Court Withholding of removal and CAT protection Bond proceedings Motions and other EOIR filings Cases referred from the USCIS Asylum Office Client and witness preparation Evidence and country-condition analysis Litigation strategy and hearing preparation You may also handle affirmative asylum matters before USCIS, including asylum interviews and preparation of Form I-589 applications. Required Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school Active bar membership in good standing in any qualifying U.S. jurisdiction Professional fluency in English and Spanish At least 3 years of immigration law experience Meaningful experience representing respondents before Immigration Court Experience handling or substantially preparing Individual Merits Hearings Strong legal research, writing, analysis, and advocacy skills Strong professional judgment and client communication skills Illinois admission is not required. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following is strongly preferred, but candidates are not expected to have handled every type of case listed below: Defensive and affirmative asylum Cancellation of removal Adjustment of status before EOIR Withholding of removal and CAT Bond proceedings Immigration motions Credible fear or reasonable fear proceedings Cases referred from the USCIS Asylum Office EOIR eRegistry / ECAS Docketwise or another immigration case-management platform Compensation Base salary: $130,000–$145,000 per year, depending on experience. This is a fixed salary and is not a draw and is not tied to generating clients or bringing business into the firm. The attorney will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus based primarily on: Quality and accuracy of legal work Courtroom preparation and advocacy Legal analysis and case strategy Preparation for hearings and interviews Client communication Case management and reliabilityProfessional judgment We value quality of representation over case volume.
