Position Summary

The Project Engineer supports field execution by ensuring accurate documentation of work in place and providing reliable data to the Project Manager for reporting and forecasting. The Project Engineer also supports both the Superintendent and Project Manager by maintaining accurate records and ensuring the project story matches actual work in place. This role requires significant time in the field and frequent travel to active project sites.

Key Responsibilities

Project Administration

• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
• Prepare, track, and maintain submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Maintain organized project logs, daily reports, and correspondence
• Assist with schedule updates using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project

Production Support & Documentation

• Track and document daily installed quantities as directed by the Superintendent (CY, tons, LF, etc.)
• Ensure all work in place is measured and recorded accurately
• Maintain production logs that align with daily reports, tickets, and invoices
• Provide daily and weekly production data to the Project Manager
• Identify inconsistencies between installed work, tickets, and reported quantities and report to the Project Manager
• Does not direct field crews or make production decisions; all field direction remains with the Superintendent

Field Engineering & Quality Control

• Provide technical support to the Superintendent and field crews for layout, formwork, reinforcement, and concrete placement
• Assist with inspections and testing (slump, air content, cylinder breaks)
• Review concrete mix designs for compliance with project requirements
• Perform quantity takeoffs and assist in tracking material usage

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspection agencies
• Attend and document project meetings, including OAC and progress meetings
• Support communication with owners, architects, and engineers to resolve technical issue

Cost & Forecast Support

• Support the Project Manager in cost-to-complete forecasting using documented production data
• Assist in maintaining alignment between installed quantities, cost reporting, and invoices
• Help identify gaps between work in place and recorded costs
• Assist in tracking and processing subcontractor and supplier invoices

Safety

• Support enforcement of the company safety program and OSHA compliance
• Participate in pre-task planning and jobsite safety activities

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• 3–5 years of experience in concrete construction
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Able to connect field documentation to project cost and reporting
• Detail-oriented with strong discipline around accurate data capture
• Communicates clearly and escalates issues through the proper chain
• Operates with urgency and follows through on commitments
• Works effectively in a field-driven, fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively (75%+) with extended stays at project sites for weeks or months at a time; valid driver’s license required

Preferred

• Experience with Procore or similar project management software
• Familiarity with ComputerEase or similar accounting systems
• Knowledge of American Concrete Institute standards
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure
