Medical Records Specialist

About This Role This position provides specialized administrative and health information support to help students access CAPS services while maintaining accurate, confidential, and legally managed behavioral-health records. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides administrative and front-line support for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) by facilitating student access to services, coordinating appointments and related information, supporting daily client flow, and appropriately communicating urgent, safety, scheduling, or access concerns to designated CAPS staff. Verifies patient eligibility and collects, posts, and processes patient payments within the EMR. Responsible for managing confidential student health records, processing and releasing information appropriately, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with privacy and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA & FERPA). What You'll Need to Succeed Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent One year of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: One to three years of relevant experience Experience in behavioral health or a medical office Knowledge of privacy (HIPAA & FERPA) and records management requirements Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to handle sensitive situations and multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
