Director of Admissions

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Admissions based in the United States.

This is a mission-driven leadership opportunity focused on expanding access to transformative science education experiences.
The Director of Admissions will lead student recruitment, admissions, enrollment support, and early alumni engagement across a national program.
You’ll develop strategies that broaden participation, with particular emphasis on historically underserved and underrepresented student communities.
The role combines strategic planning with hands-on relationship building, admissions operations, data analysis, and team leadership.
You’ll collaborate with educational institutions, community organizations, staff, volunteers, and program stakeholders to strengthen the student pipeline.
Success will require strong judgment, empathy, organization, and the ability to translate data and community insight into effective recruitment strategies.
This fully remote role offers meaningful impact in a collaborative environment, with periodic travel for recruitment, staff meetings, and summer program operations

Accountabilities:

• Lead and manage the full student recruitment and admissions lifecycle, including outreach, application evaluation, selection, yield, and enrollment support.
• Develop and implement recruitment strategies for specific communities, regions, and constituencies, with a strong focus on access and equity.
• Build and strengthen strategies for recruiting students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in science.
• Supervise and support the Admissions Officer, providing direction, coaching, and accountability.
• Develop partnerships with community-based organizations and other youth-serving organizations to identify and recruit qualified students.
• Build and maintain relationships with university admissions offices, host campuses, affiliates, colleges, and other educational partners.
• Collaborate with staff and committee members to develop admissions policies, application materials, and efficient application-processing procedures.
• Counsel prospective participants and families throughout the admissions journey, answering questions about applications, admissions, and financial aid.
• Support enrollment operations to ensure a smooth transition from admission through program participation.
• Review and improve admissions and enrollment systems, workflows, and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
• Oversee college-related content and resources provided to program participants, including developing and updating training and informational materials.
• Manage a portfolio of recruiting, admissions, enrollment, and new alumni projects, ensuring priorities are delivered within established timelines.
• Attend recruitment events, community outreach opportunities, staff meetings, campus activities, and other in-person engagements as needed.
• Track outreach budgets, expenditures, recruitment activity, and program impact while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Maintain admissions databases and prepare data for ad-hoc, quarterly, and annual reporting, including analysis of recruitment, admissions, and enrollment trends.
• Collaborate across teams to support recruiting, admissions, enrollment, summer operations, and new alumni programming.
• Take ownership of additional projects and responsibilities as needed to advance program objectives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred .
• Approximately 5 years of experience in college admissions or a related field , with supervisory experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience recruiting, advising, and supporting students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, universities, and other external partners.
• Strong leadership and strategic planning capabilities, including experience managing staff, volunteers, resources, and projects.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight timeframes.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including experience with marketing, outreach, or promotional activities.
• Strong understanding of access and equity issues affecting historically underrepresented populations in science and education.
• Proficiency with admissions management systems such as Embark or comparable platforms.
• Excellent data analysis, database management, and reporting capabilities.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and common computer applications.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership, accountability, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while managing time effectively, prioritizing competing demands, meeting deadlines, and maintaining responsive communication.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, collaborative, and student-centered work.
• Authorization to work in the United States and ability to successfully complete required background clearance.
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30 days per year , including recruitment events, twice-yearly in-person staff meetings, campus activities, and summer program operations.

Benefits:

• $89,000–$93,000 annual salary .
