Health Conservation, Inc. (HCI) is a national occupational health and hearing conservation service provider headquartered in Rockford, Illinois. HCI provides onsite OSHA/MSHA-related audiometric testing and other occupational health screening services to industrial employers throughout the continental United States using mobile testing units and other onsite testing configurations.

HCI is seeking a full-time Occupational Audiologist to serve within HCI's audiological resource and Professional Supervisor (PS) team. This is not a traditional clinical audiology position. The successful candidate will combine occupational audiology expertise with training, field support, regulatory guidance, quality oversight, and day-to-day operational problem solving.

The position requires an individual who can work independently while remaining actively engaged with HCI leadership, Technicians, Data Processing, and customers. Travel of up to approximately 30% should be expected , primarily for Technician training, field support, quality audits, and other operational needs.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Audiological Review and Oversight
   Perform daily audiological review of occupational audiometric results, including identification of questionable audiograms, test validity, Standard Threshold Shifts, baseline revisions, retesting requirements, and other audiological concerns.

2. Technician Training and Standardization
   Serve as a technical resource for HCI's Technician training program, including classroom instruction, field training, annual in-service programs, and ongoing competency development. Take ownership of ensuring that audiometric testing and processing procedures are taught accurately and consistently regardless of which HCI trainer provides the instruction .

3. Field and Operational Support
   Provide hands-on field support when operational needs require it, including assisting with audiometric testing, Technician development, troubleshooting, and other hearing-conservation activities. The Audiologist must be comfortable working directly within HCI's mobile testing environment and understanding the practical challenges encountered by field Technicians.

4. Troubleshooting and Technical Guidance
   Provide real-time technical support to Technicians experiencing audiometric, equipment, testing-environment, or procedural issues in the field. Document and communicate troubleshooting results so that successful—and unsuccessful—corrective actions can be shared with other HCI technical and operational personnel.

5. Quality Assurance and Field Audits
   Conduct periodic field audits of HCI audiometric testing operations to verify compliance with established procedures, identify inconsistencies, and reinforce standardized testing practices. Work with Operations leadership to establish an ongoing audit schedule while balancing Technician training and field-support requirements.

6. Work-Relatedness Determinations
   Prepare written determinations regarding the work-relatedness of Standard Threshold Shifts and other occupational hearing matters as required under applicable regulations and HCI procedures.

7. Workers' Compensation Support
   Prepare professional opinion letters related to occupational hearing-loss claims and, when necessary, provide professional or expert-witness support for HCI client companies.

8. Regulatory and Customer Support
   Provide audiological and regulatory guidance to HCI management, staff, and customers regarding OSHA/MSHA hearing-conservation requirements, individual employee cases, testing methodology, and industry best practices.

9. Industry and Regulatory Awareness
   Actively monitor developments involving OSHA, MSHA, NIOSH, CAOHC, NHCA, and other relevant occupational hearing-conservation organizations and communicate meaningful changes or emerging issues to HCI leadership. The expectation is to bring relevant information forward proactively , rather than waiting for a specific question or issue to arise.

10. Process Improvement
    Work collaboratively with Operations, Data Processing, and field personnel to identify opportunities to improve audiometric testing, processing turnaround, Technician training, documentation, and quality control.

Qualifications

• Au.D. preferred; Master's-level Audiologist may be considered with significant occupational hearing-conservation experience.
• Current audiology license and eligibility for Illinois licensure.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA occupational hearing-conservation requirements; familiarity with MSHA requirements preferred.
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A).
• CAOHC Professional Supervisor (PS-A) certification preferred or ability to obtain.
• CAOHC Course Director (CD) certification is highly desirable.
• Minimum two years of occupational audiology experience preferred; five years of overall audiology experience desirable.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the continental United States.
• Ability and willingness to work periodically in industrial environments and HCI mobile testing units.

The Individual We Are Looking For

HCI needs an Audiologist who is comfortable operating beyond a traditional clinical role. The successful individual will be independent but engaged, technically strong but practical, comfortable training others, willing to go into the field, and proactive in identifying issues before they become operational problems.

Because this individual serves as HCI's an audiological authority, consistency is critical. The Audiologist must be willing to take ownership of how audiometric procedures are interpreted, taught, applied, and audited throughout the organization while working collaboratively with Operations and other HCI technical personnel.

Compensation: Commensurate with occupational audiology experience, credentials, and relevant training experience.
