JobSummary and Qualifications POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for nutritional management and care of patients according to physician diagnoses. Performs as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Reviews the interdisciplinary screening process and assigns a priority level ofrisk for patients. Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, i.e., attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc. Assesses patient's nutritional status according to established standards. Obtains necessary information from the medical record to determine patient's nutritional status. Develops nutritional care plan for patients of any age including neonate, child, adolescent, geriatric, and terminally ill patients. Develops nutritional care plans based on the cultural orientation of the patient. Evaluates the results of nutritional intervention on the patient's nutritional status to determine the need to revise the nutritional plan of care. Communicates patient's nutritional status by consulting with the physician when appropriate. Interacts professionally with patient and family. Provides nutritional teaching and counseling to patient and family in making desired changes in eating habits. Assists in orienting and training new employees to the department. Documentation meets standards and policies. Able to assess and counsel outpatient's (renal transplant and diabetes center) per department nutrition policies and procedures. Participate in department required tray assessments, test trays, and patient visitations. Assist in department meetings to train staff on diets. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David's North Austin Medical Center. Required: Computer skills; Must be flexible, organized, and able to function effectively under stressful situations EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or Culinary related field of study with the completion of Didactic or coordinated program as approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Preferred: Computer Skills with Meditech electronic charting. Minimum of 1 year of clinical nutrition experience in an acute care hospital setting. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Required: Registered Dietitian or eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration; must obtain Licensed Dietitian status with the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dieticians within 90 days of initial employment. St. David's Surgical Hospital is part of St. David's North Austin Medical Center and is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 24-hour emergency department, a medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under. The hospital is staffed with pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists who are specially trained to care for children.
