Senior Software Engineer II

Role Description

Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. This role is a blend of real-world impact, technical challenge, and modern tooling. You’ll help build and evolve Virta’s data engagement platform — the system that turns partner and internally derived data into eligibility decisions and campaign-ready member audiences.

• Anchor the engineering behind Member Marketing, ensuring the right members hear about Virta at the right time.
• Create a trusted, observable path from raw data to member outreach.
• Modernize file- and API-based data exchange through explicit contracts and automated validation.
• Work in an AI-augmented way, bringing sound judgment about where AI-assisted tooling improves velocity and data quality.
• Own foundational data infrastructure and lead a squad solving hard data-correctness problems.

Responsibilities

• Design and own the data contracts and processing semantics.
• Build end-to-end observability and reconciliation.
• Lead technical discovery and delivery of high-impact work across Member Marketing and Coverage Eligibility.
• Partner with Product and Growth stakeholders to translate evolving audience and workflow requirements.
• Design for correctness and auditability in regulated workflows.
• Modernize legacy, file-based processes toward well-contracted, event-driven integrations.
• Own systems end-to-end from architecture through operations.
• Apply an experiment mindset (Build-Measure-Learn) to validate assumptions.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering skills.
• Experience designing data-intensive systems.
• A proactive, ownership-first mindset.
• High agency and autonomy.
• Demonstrated technical leadership.
• Experience with B2B or partner-facing data systems.
• Sound judgment about AI-assisted tooling.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Typically 10+ years of software engineering experience.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in healthcare data domains.
• Experience with customer-data, marketing-automation, or audience-activation platforms.
• Prior work modernizing legacy data flows.
• Familiarity with data quality frameworks.
• Demonstrated use of AI/LLM-based tooling in engineering work.
