Strong Faculty/Staff Culture and Sense of Belonging: welcoming, positive, supportive, and engaged colleagues Position Overview The Athletic Trainer is responsible for preventing, evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries and illnesses for K-12 student-athletes. This position continuously monitors student-athlete health and physical conditions, evaluates injuries and illnesses, develops and implements appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans, and makes recommendations regarding participation, return to play, and ongoing care. The Athletic Trainer communicates regularly with the Athletic Director, coaches, families, physicians, and other medical professionals to ensure coordinated and appropriate care for student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Athletic Director and works collaboratively with coaches, school administrators, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include providing athletic training coverage for practices and competitions, managing the athletic training room and related medical supplies and equipment, maintaining accurate injury and treatment records, and coordinating emergency medical responses when needed. The Athletic Trainer also supports injury prevention and health education initiatives and helps promote a safe, healthy, and supportive athletic environment across the school’s K-12 program. Primary Responsibilities Injury Prevention and Wellness: Develop and implement injury prevention programs; provide protective taping, bracing, and padding; and inspect athletic facilities and equipment for potential safety hazards. Emergency and Acute Care: Provide first aid and immediate care for athletic injuries and illnesses; triage injuries; manage acute trauma; and initiate and follow Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) as needed. Coordinate with first responders and emergency medical personnel when necessary. Injury Evaluation, Treatment, and Rehabilitation: Evaluate athletic injuries, including concussions; develop and oversee individualized treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play plans; and monitor student-athletes throughout the recovery process. Concussion Management: Evaluate and manage suspected concussions in accordance with school policies and applicable medical and regulatory guidelines, including appropriate return-to-learn and return-to-play protocols. Medical Records and Compliance: Maintain accurate, confidential records of injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, and other athletic health information. Review and oversee required medical forms, including immunization records and other student-athlete health documentation. Communication and Collaboration: Maintain clear and timely communication regarding student-athlete health and participation status with coaches, the Athletic Director, school nurses, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Collaborate with medical providers and consulting physicians to support appropriate student care. Athletic Department Support: Manage the athletic training room, medical supplies, equipment, and inventory; monitor the athletic training budget; and ensure appropriate supplies are available for practices and competitions. CHSAA Compliance: Assist with maintaining CHSAA records and compliance requirements related to athletic training and student-athlete participation. Athletic Event Coverage: Maintain a flexible schedule to provide coverage for daily practices, competitions, evening events, Saturday games and practices, and rescheduled athletic events. School Community Engagement: Participate in department, division, and school committees or task forces; attend school events and professional development opportunities; and contribute to extracurricular activities as appropriate. Student and Family Support: Maintain positive, professional, and respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community while supporting the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Athletic Department and the school community. Working Conditions Ability to work effectively in an environment with multiple distractions and frequent interruptions. Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Ability to swim and respond appropriately to water-related emergencies, including the ability to swim in deep water. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Work hours may exceed eight hours per day and 40 hours per week, with regular evening and weekend responsibilities, including athletic competitions, practices, and school events. Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency and high-stress situations. Required Qualifications And Skills Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited college or university; Master's degree preferred. Current Board of Certification (BOC) credential and eligibility for or current Colorado Athletic Trainer licensure. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications. Demonstrated experience working as an Athletic Trainer, preferably in a school or youth athletic setting. Formal training and demonstrated competency in athletic taping, bandaging, bracing, and other injury-prevention techniques. Knowledge of athletic injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, concussion management, and return-to-play protocols. Valid Colorado driver's license and ability to meet the requirements for driving school vehicles, if applicable. Strong crisis-management and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with adolescents, families, coaches, and medical professionals. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accurate and confidential records. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, collaboration, flexibility, and personal responsibility. Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and protecting student privacy. Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming school environment. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Athletic Department, school nurses, administrators, coaches, families, and healthcare professionals. Job Opening August 13, 2026 Salary range $70,000 - $80,000 Employment Status Full-time, exempt. This position follows the faculty calendar, with employment generally running from August 1 through May 31. The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate athletic practices, competitions, and school events.
