Controls Engineer Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, United States Company: Entergy Work Place Flexibility: Onsite Legal Entity: Entergy Services, LLC Position Level: Engineer II, III or Sr. (depending on qualifications or experience) Job Summary Act as the company liaison and technical support for Grid Technology’s relay controls and automation, SCADA integration, and circuit protection logic. Serve as the analytics liaison between engineering and data analytics teams, translating technical requirements into data‑driven insights and solutions. Project areas may include advanced distribution management system (ADMS), fault location isolation and service restoration systems (FLISR), inverter‑based resource (IBR) protection, and volt‑var optimization projects. The role will involve working with controls for reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, switchgear, and other microprocessor‑based utility controls. This position is located in Entergy’s state‑of‑the‑art Grid Technology Lab in New Orleans, LA. Responsibilities Develop, enhance, and support distribution relay settings templates for reclosers, regulators, capacitors, switchgear, and other SCADA‑capable devices. Create and maintain SCADA standards for distribution relays that align with the Distribution Management System and comply with IT, OT, and security standards. Provide technical support to Distribution Automation Protection Engineers, Field Support Specialists, and Operations regarding field equipment automation and communications. Maintain relay settings file standards and processes in the relay asset management system. Collaborate with the Transmission organization to develop standards compliant with the distribution management system project. Complete firmware and settings modification testing for devices on SCADA and manage associated change management. Participate in routine, non‑routine, and emergency storm and outage restoration duties. Leverage AI and data analytics tools to explore use cases for applying AI to system data in a laboratory environment. Conduct data analytics and utility distribution data analysis. Use Power BI for data visualization and reporting. Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial) from a four‑year accredited institution. Or a degree in an engineering technology discipline from a four‑year accredited institution with a PE may be considered. Desired: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree. Minimum Experience Engineer II – 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer III – 4+ years of experience. Engineer Sr – 6+ years of experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Technical mastery of engineering principles; in‑depth knowledge of technical writing of procedures, programs, and standards; consistent drive for value in sound engineering decisions; ability to mentor other engineers and technical professionals; strong leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; excellent math, project management, and PC skills; ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities; work well under pressure; adherence to safety policies; hazard recognition and mitigation; commitment to a diverse and inclusive work environment; process improvement ability.
