Electrical Design Engineer

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

To determine and implement electrical designs that meet cost and schedule objectives and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Reviews customer requirements including customer specifications, Statements of Work, and interface drawings in order to ensure compliance with contract. Attends job kick-off meetings and participates in design reviews with customers. Supports the preparation and update task lists and schedules. Works to plan schedules and budgets on assigned programs. Designs AC & DC electrical systems from customer specifications. Develop system layouts, subassembly configurations and packaging criteria. Prepares wiring diagrams, schematics, and wire lists. Provides design input to mechanical engineers and CAD design team. Reviews and approves drawings. Supports production of prototype and electrical system build. Interfaces with other departments to resolve questions and technical issues. Creates technical proposals, technical materials, procurement specifications and electrical analyses. Supports the Sales department in proposal development and engineering estimates. Reviews vendor/shop drawings, quotes, and proposals. Creates electrical long leads and Cost Schedule Impact Logs (CSIL’s). Submits Engineering Change Proposals (ECP’s, RFW’s, etc.). Interfaces with customers, program management, and contracts to resolve customer issues. Contributes to product improvement, new product development and product standardization. Failure analysis with clear problem interpretation and robust solution proposals. Provides risk assessment and mitigation for electrical design engineering tasks. Supports company and customer test development and validation. Supports Electromagnetic shielding and filtering. Other duties may be assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards. Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors. Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary. Ability to adhere to workplace rules. Ability to obtain security clearance. Thorough knowledge of circuit simulation programs. Thorough understanding of the relationship between hardware and software for company products. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field. 2+ years of professional engineering experience required. Work Environment / Physical Requirements Office environment. Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time. Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones). Ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Travel up to 10%. Travel Requirements Yes, as required.
