Heavy Equipment Operator

Mountain Top / Lehigh Valley / Scranton / Harrisburg / Lancaster / and Williamsport PA Areas

Base / Shop Rate: $30/hour
Labor Rate: Approximately $47/hour
Equipment Operating Rate: Approximately $67–$71/hour depending on classification and project
Full-Time | Year-Round Work | Prevailing Wage Opportunities

We are hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for civil construction, utility, excavation, paving, concrete and sitework projects throughout the Mountain Top, Lehigh Valley and surrounding Pennsylvania areas.

This position is for someone who can actually operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment safely and productively; not someone who only has limited seat time on one machine.

Travel is required.

The operating rates on qualifying projects are extremely competitive, and candidates are expected to be willing to travel to where the work is located.

Equipment You Should Be Comfortable Operating

We are looking for operators with experience on several of the following:

• Excavators
• Mini Excavators
• Wheel Loaders
• Backhoes
• Skid Steers
• Track Loaders
• Dozers
• Rollers / Compaction Equipment
• Other heavy civil and construction equipment

The stronger and more versatile you are across multiple pieces of equipment, the better.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operate heavy equipment on civil construction and infrastructure projects
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading and backfilling
• Load and move dirt, stone, pipe and construction materials
• Assist with utility and pipe installation
• Perform sitework and earthmoving
• Support concrete and paving crews as needed
• Work around underground utilities and active jobsites
• Perform daily equipment inspections
• Identify basic equipment or safety issues before operation
• Maintain safe operating distances and communicate with ground crews
• Follow grade, elevations and jobsite layout instructions
• Perform labor work when equipment is not being operated
• Work as part of the crew to keep projects moving

This Is Important

• This is not a position where you sit in an air-conditioned cab all day and wait for someone else to do the work.
• When the equipment is not running, you are expected to get out and help the crew.

That may include:

• Shoveling
• Setting pipe
• Assisting with concrete
• Moving materials
• Spotting equipment
• General sitework
• Helping with cleanup and jobsite preparation

Everyone works together.

What We're Looking For

• Several years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred
• Strong excavator experience
• Experience operating loaders and backhoes
• Ability to safely operate around trenching and underground utilities
• Civil construction, excavation, utility, paving or sitework experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work from grade and follow field instructions
• Willingness to perform physical labor when needed
• Valid driver's license
• Reliable transportation
• Dependable attendance
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
• Ability to work overtime when required
• MUST be willing to travel to projects throughout the Mountain Top, Lehigh Valley and surrounding Pennsylvania areas

Travel Expectations

Travel is part of this position.

Projects may be located throughout the Central PA, NEPA, SEPA, and Eastern PA regions.

If you are only interested in working within a few miles of home every day, this position is probably not the right fit.

The compensation reflects the level of skill, flexibility and travel expected from experienced operators.

Compensation

• Rates vary depending on the work being performed and the applicable project classification.
• Base / Shop Rate: Approximately $30/hour
• Labor Rate: Approximately $47/hour
• Equipment Operating Rates: Approximately $67–$71/hour depending on the equipment classification and qualifying project
• Prevailing wage rates are determined by the project and work classification and are not guaranteed for every hour worked.
