Program Director

About Us Hope Against Trafficking is a nonprofit organization providing safe housing and restorative support for adult survivors of sex and labor trafficking in Southeast Michigan. The organization operates Magdalene Detroit, a 24-month, rent-free residential program designed to support survivors’ physical, emotional, and economic transformation. Residents receive access to essential resources, trauma-informed services, life-skills support, and a compassionate community focused on long-term healing, dignity, stability, and independence. Position Summary The Program Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for all survivor programming at Hope Against Trafficking. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for program quality, resident outcomes, staff leadership, compliance, and continuous improvement. The Program Director directly supervises the Residential Manager, Case Coordinator, and Case Manager and ensures that services remain trauma-informed, survivor-centered, strengths-based, and aligned with the organization’s mission, values, policies, and grant requirements Organizational Values & Accountability The Program Director models, reinforces, and operationalizes Hope Against Trafficking’s core values: Love Finds a Way Demonstrates compassion, dignity, and perseverance while maintaining clear boundaries, structure, and accountability. This role operates within a Next Level Nonprofit framework, emphasizing: Clear ownership of outcomes Proactive problem-solving (no surprises) Direct and timely communication Measurable goals and follow-through Shared responsibility for organizational success Essential Functions Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for all residential and survivor programming Oversee screening, onboarding, training, and background checks for all program staff and volunteers Lead the resident intake and acceptance decision process in collaboration with program staff Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Residential Manager, Case Coordinator, and Case Manager Ensure consistent implementation of trauma-informed, strengths-based care Maintain compliance with organizational policies, licensing requirements, and grant expectations Utilize data, documentation, and program evaluation to drive decision-making and improvement Serve as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director Primary Responsibilities Oversee intake, assessment, orientation, service planning, and discharge processes Ensure Individual Service Plans (ISPs) are consistently developed, implemented, reviewed, and documented Monitor resident engagement, progress, and outcomes across all program phases Oversee delivery of community living, recovery, and life-skills programming Provide leadership in crisis intervention and complex case management situations Ensure consistency and quality of trauma-informed care across all program areas Provide direct supervision, coaching, and accountability to program leadership staff Establish clear expectations, priorities, and measurable performance metrics Conduct weekly 1:1 supervision meetings with direct reports Conduct 90-day and annual performance evaluations Ensure staff adherence to schedules, documentation standards, and program expectations Address performance concerns promptly through corrective action and documentation Coordinate on-call coverage and staff accountability systems Foster a culture of growth through training, feedback, and professional development Program Administration & Accountability Plan, implement, and oversee program operations in alignment with strategic goals Lead weekly program staff meetings and monthly program review sessions Ensure timely and accurate documentation (case notes, incident reports, outcomes tracking) Monitor program performance through data analysis and reporting Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities and communicate them proactively to the Executive Director Ensure programs operate within approved budgets and financial controls Monthly Board Reports Writing grants when necessary Community & Organizational Collaboration Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, referral sources, and service providers Advocate for residents within external systems (medical, legal, housing, etc.) Collaboration with the Executive Director on strategic initiatives, events, and organizational priorities Support volunteer engagement and board-related program needs Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred 3–5 years of experience in program leadership, residential services, or trauma-informed care Demonstrated experience supervising and developing staff Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and survivor-centered practices Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining clarity and accountability High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality Demonstrated commitment to survivor advocacy, justice, and community collaboration Compensation $60k - 75k/year.
