Front of House Staff

Gunny’s is building a community-focused, hospitality-driven neighborhood restaurant and bar where guests and team members feel genuinely welcomed, respected, and taken care of.

We are hiring front-of-house team members to help open our space in September in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. This is an open call for hourly front-of-house roles, including bartenders, servers, support staff, and hosts.

Front-of-house team members are responsible for creating a warm, professional, and efficient guest experience. Duties may vary by role, but all FOH employees are expected to support hospitality standards, communicate clearly with the team, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and help create a restaurant environment where guests feel cared for.

This is an opening team opportunity, so we are looking for people who are flexible, team-oriented, dependable, and excited to help build strong systems and a strong service culture from the beginning.

Duties may vary depending on position, shift, training, and business needs.

Greet and assist guests in a warm, professional, and timely manner.

Provide attentive and knowledgeable service to guests.

Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently, as assigned by role.

Prepare, serve, or deliver food and beverages according to company standards, as applicable by role.

Maintain clean, organized, and stocked work areas.

Support dining room, bar, service station, and guest-facing cleanliness throughout service.

Process cash and credit card transactions accurately, if assigned.

Follow all company policies related to cash handling, POS use, tabs, discounts, comps, and guest checks.

Communicate clearly with managers, bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, support staff, and guests.

Respond to guest questions, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally.

Bring guest complaints, allergy concerns, intoxication concerns, safety issues, or service problems to management promptly.

Follow all safety, sanitation, food handling, and responsible alcohol service procedures.

Assist with opening, closing, side work, restocking, cleaning, and other assigned shift duties.

Support events, activations, private parties, and community programming as needed.

Contribute to a respectful, team-oriented, and hospitality-driven workplace.

Prior restaurant, bar, hospitality, retail, customer service, or comparable guest-facing experience preferred.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Positive, professional, and guest-focused attitude.

Ability to follow direction, ask questions, and communicate clearly during service.

Ability to work in an active, fast-paced restaurant and bar environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume service periods as needed.

Toast POS experience preferred, but not required.

BASSET certification required for roles that serve or handle alcohol, either before first alcohol-service shift or by the deadline set by company policy and applicable law.

Food Handler certification may be required by role, company policy, and applicable law.

This position requires work in an active restaurant and bar environment. Duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Depending on role, this position may require standing and walking for extended periods of time, moving through dining room and bar areas, using stairs, carrying food and beverages, lifting or carrying items up to 25 pounds, using POS systems, handling glassware, and working in areas that may include noise, wet floors, hot or cold conditions, and fast-paced service.

Hourly pay range: $13.50 

Actual compensation will depend on role, experience, qualifications, schedule, and business needs. Tipped employees will be paid in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local wage laws.

Health insurance eligibility for employees regularly working 35 or more hours per week, subject to plan terms and company policy.
