Plumber Position

Akicita Federal is hiring plumbers to maintain and repair critical plumbing infrastructure supporting veteran healthcare facilities for the Central Alabama VA Healthcare System in Montgomery, AL. These roles directly support the daily operation of VA medical campuses, ensuring safe and functional plumbing systems for veterans and clinical staff. You will work a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM–4:30 PM) alongside a skilled trades team serving two VA campuses.

Responsibilities include:

• Testing joints, piping, and fixtures for leaks and pressure integrity across medical facility plumbing systems
• Installing, repairing, and replacing valves, fittings, and piping components to maintain uninterrupted facility operations
• Inspecting and testing piping systems following repairs, alterations, or new installations to verify code compliance and functionality
• Disassembling, diagnosing, and repairing damaged pipe sections or fabricating replacement components as needed
• Repairing and replacing toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures throughout active healthcare facilities
• Conducting routine inspections of piping, fittings, and connections to identify and address wear or defective parts proactively
• Operating hand and power tools common to the plumbing trade safely and in accordance with facility protocols

Salary: $58,240 - $64,480 a year

Requirements:

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in commercial or institutional plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair
• Proficiency with hand and power tools standard to the plumbing trade
• Ability to inspect, test, and troubleshoot piping systems, valves, fixtures, and fittings
• Experience repairing and replacing toilets, sinks, and related plumbing fixtures
• Ability to work on-site five days per week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM–4:30 PM), with occasional overtime as required
• Ability to travel between Montgomery and Tuskegee, AL campuses on a rotational basis as directed

What sets candidates apart:

• Prior experience performing plumbing work in a hospital, medical center, or other large institutional/commercial facility
• Familiarity with healthcare facility maintenance standards or Joint Commission environment-of-care requirements
• State plumbing license or journeyman certification
• Experience working within a VA or other federal government facility
• Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities across multiple campus locations
