MachinistThe Machinist is responsible for operating manual machining equipment and CNC machinery to perform precision machining, repair, and manufacturing tasks in support of service and repair operations. This role supports operational performance by machining new and existing components to engineering specifications while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity. The Machinist interprets engineering drawings, applies sound machining practices, and performs dimensional verification to ensure work meets production and quality requirements. This position works closely with technicians, supervisors, and operations personnel to support customer deliverables and shop performance.Responsibilities:Operates manual machining equipment and CNC machinery to manufacture and repair componentsMachines raw material, castings, shafts, and existing components to engineering specificationsInterprets engineering drawings, GD&T, machining symbols, and tolerances accuratelyPerforms dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and related precision instrumentsCalculates speeds, feeds, tooling requirements, and machining offsets based on material and equipment capabilitiesApplies shop math, trigonometry, and geometric calculations to machining operations and setupsPerforms repair machining, reconditioning, and modification of existing parts and assembliesUses drills, grinders, mills, lathes, saws, cranes, and other shop equipment safely and effectivelyRigs, lifts, and maneuvers components and castings using approved lifting practicesMonitors tooling condition and replaces worn or damaged tooling as requiredPerforms routine equipment checks and basic machine maintenance to support reliability and performanceCompletes work instructions, ERP transactions, and inspection documentation accuratelyApplies machining best practices related to thermal growth, material behavior, and machining deflectionMaintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and proceduresTrains and supports machinists, apprentices, and team members when assignedWorks overtime and adapts to changing priorities to support customer and operational demandsKey Performance Indicators:Achieve machining quality and dimensional accuracy requirementsSupport on-time completion of machining and repair work ordersMaintain compliance with company safety policies and proceduresMinimize scrap, rework, and machining errors through quality workmanshipMaintain accurate ERP documentation and inspection recordsQualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferredExperience: Minimum 3 years of machining experience in industrial, manufacturing, or repair environments preferredExperience operating manual machining equipment and CNC machinery requiredDemonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and machining specificationsExperience machining castings, shafts, rotating equipment components, and various metals preferredExperience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment requiredSkills / Competencies:Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles and best practicesProficiency with manual machining equipment, CNC machinery, and precision measurement toolsAbility to work in metric and imperial measurement systemsKnowledge of speeds, feeds, tooling applications, and machining calculationsBasic welding skills preferredStrong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilitiesComputer literacy with the ability to complete ERP transactions and electronic documentationEffective communication and teamwork skillsCommitment to workplace safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvementPhysical Requirements:Frequently:Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push, pull, and lift materials throughout the workdayLift and move materials up to 70 lbs. within the physical abilities of the employeeOperate machining equipment, cranes, forklifts, and hand tools safelyWork in industrial shop environments around moving machinery and equipmentOccasionally:Wear respiratory protection and additional PPE as requiredWork overtime to support customer schedules and operational demandsPerform extended machining operations requiring repetitive movement and sustained focus
