Physician (Hospitalist)

Job Title

A Hospitalist is an Internal Medicine physician trained to cover all practices and all disciplines to provide specialized care for patients during their hospital stay.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Participating in the provision of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care.
• Ability to recognize outliers, anticipate problems, and rapidly respond to crises or changes in a patient's condition.
• Familiarity with all the key players in the hospital, including medical and surgery consultants, discharge planners, clergy, and others.
• Participating in the educational activities of the training program, VA Medical Center orientation, education programs, and other activities involving the clinical staff. This includes the assumption of responsibility for teaching and supervising residents and students, as appropriate.
• Performance of these duties in accordance with the established practices, procedures, and policies, clinical departments, and other affiliated hospitals where the Hospitalist is assigned.
• Participating in VA Medical Center committees and councils that the Hospitalist is appointed to or is invited to attend.

Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
