Software Dev Engineer II, AWS Invoicing

AWS Invoicing, Global Tax and Compliance team is looking for software development engineers with a strong sense of ownership and passion for delivering creative solutions for complex problems at "Amazon scale". You will design highly scalable systems, develop distributed services, and build solid platform solutions based on the real-time customer data and demanding service-level agreements. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.Key job responsibilitiesThis role is responsible for transforming a critical billing, invoicing, tax infrastructure component into a scalable, multi-tenant platform that supports complex enterprise customers with global tax obligations across multiple entities and jurisdictions. You will lead architecture decisions, drive engineering execution, and partner closely with product, tax compliance, and dependent platform teams to deliver capabilities that directly unblock AWS's largest strategic customers and international expansion.Platform abstraction design: Build scalable distributed systems and clear dat models that allow platform to evolve independently and rapidly.Cross-team technical integration: Partner with Tax Profile, Tax Compliance and KYC, Tax Planning, and Marketplace teams to define interfaces, resolve dependency bottlenecks.Engineering excellence: Establish technical standards for the team including code quality, operational readiness, testing strategy, and scalability patterns. Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar.Operational ownership: Ensure Tax Platform Services operates with high availability and low-latency at scale, owning operational metrics, on-call excellence, and incident response for a system that sits in the critical path of billing.Technical debt reduction: Identify and systematically retire country-specific/tenant-specific implementations in favor of generalized, configurable solutions that reduce engineering effort for expansion.Basic qualifications- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field- Experience programming with at least one software programming languagePreferred qualification - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalentAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
