Patent Litigation Associate Attorney (Mid-Level)
Locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley, California

Direct Counsel is seeking a Mid-Level Intellectual Property Litigation Associate to join the IP litigation practice of a leading Am Law firm in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley . This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with strong patent litigation experience who is interested in handling complex intellectual property disputes in a collaborative and sophisticated practice.

The role offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes patent matters across multiple forums, including federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and administrative proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in patent litigation matters involving both accused infringers and patent owners

• Assist with and manage litigation in U.S. district courts , International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations , and PTAB proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

• Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda

• Conduct legal research and case analysis to support litigation strategy

• Participate in fact and expert discovery, depositions, and trial preparation

• Work closely with clients, experts, and technical consultants to analyze complex technologies and develop litigation strategies

• Collaborate with attorneys across offices on complex intellectual property disputes

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of patent litigation experience

• Experience representing both patent owners and accused infringers

• Experience litigating before U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and/or the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)

• Technical background required , preferably a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field

• USPTO registration preferred but not required

• Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills

• Excellent communication and organizational abilities

• J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

• Active admission to the California State Bar

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of approximately $250,000–$375,000 , depending on experience and qualifications.
