Coordinator, Advocacy and Student Programs

The Coordinator, Advocacy and Student Programs is responsible for mobilizing young people and communities to support full access to sexual and reproductive health care services and sexual health information and protect individual reproductive freedom. Identifies key constituencies and develops and conducts mobilizing strategies. Manages student advocacy programs for high schools and colleges/universities in our region and advances the mission of PPHP through community collaboration, volunteer engagement, and outreach.

Essential Functions: Public Affairs • Manages and supervises Planned Parenthood Generation Action programs and serves as PPHP’s liaison with PPFA regarding youth and young people advocacy efforts. Supports outreach events on college campuses to educate and activate college students to advocate on behalf of PPHP and sexual and reproductive health issues. • Manage High School Advocacy Program and other advocacy efforts with students at all levels. • Manage student volunteer activities including, but not limited to, canvassing and phone banks in the region. • Organizes PPHP’s annual Youth Lobby event. • Participates in community outreach and engagement events throughout our region to build our activist base. • Manage short-term advocacy and organizing projects such as Day of Action, student engagement activities and actions, voter engagement, and legislative campaigns, in the region, as assigned. • Build and retains targeted collaborative partnerships with allied organizations and coalitions in the region, consistent with affiliate educational, medical, advocacy, lobbying, and legislative goals. Represents PPHP at a broad range of meetings, coalitions, and task forces outside the affiliate, in the assigned region; leverages relationships with leaders of coalition partners and community agencies to build network of youth activists for reproductive and sexual health, rights and justice (grasstops and grassroots). • Assist in the development of the annual Advocacy & Government Relations work plan. • As needed, serve as Advocacy & Government Relations liaison to other departments, including the health centers. • Collaborate with Communications, Development, Education and Training, and other departments to organize special events to connect PPHP with our supporters and activists. • Develops and conducts presentations about legislation, policy, and advocacy for coalition partners, campus groups, and other organizations, speaks on sexual and reproductive health and rights issues to a wide variety of audiences, including youth groups, and potential and existing coalition partners – with a specific prioritization of youth-focused partners. • Supports the efforts of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Action Fund as needed. \n\n

$27.65 - $27.75 an hour Qualifications: Experience, Education and Licensure • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in political studies/public policy, social work, or related area. • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience with community organizing, political campaigns, coalition building, and/or legislative process or an equivalent combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. • Demonstrated verbal, written, project coordination, and community organizing skills. • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred. • Ability to utilize technology, such as databases and websites, to further public affairs goals. • Experience and demonstrated tact in working with diverse staff, volunteers and community representatives to meet PPHP’s mission. • Able to work independently and as part of a team. \n
