About the Position

# Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care Surgical/Trauma – Virginia Start Date: October 19, 2026 Location: Arlington, Virginia Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week; 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period (weekend defined as Saturday or Sunday for night shift); 13-week assignment; 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio Highlights: - Specialized intermediate care unit focused on pulmonary, cardiac, and trauma patients requiring advanced airway management- 22-bed unit caring for adult to geriatric patients with ventilators, tracheostomies, high flow oxygen, BiPAP, and cardiac drips- Patient population includes complex pulmonary conditions, cardiac conditions (CHF, post-MI, dysrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization), traumatic brain injury, and med/surg overflow- Epic EMR system with required Epic training class based on experience level (accelerated or 2-day orientation)- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and physical therapy- Professional development opportunity with potential charge nurse responsibilities for qualified candidates Requirements: - Active Virginia RN license or compact license in hand at time of submission (required)- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown setting- Current BLS and ACLS certifications- Recent cardiac telemetry experience within the past year (required)- Ventilator experience required – comprehensive respiratory proficiency including high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, BiPAP, and ventilator care- Epic charting system experience required- Clinical skills required: management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, central line and PICC line management, cardiac drip management and titration, heparin protocols, pre/post cardiac catheterization care, traumatic brain injury care, and isolation precautions- Previous charge nurse experience preferred- COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered per CMS guidelines)- Flu vaccination required during flu season October 1 - March 31 (medical exemptions only)- Must be available for the posted start date- Smoke/nicotine-free facility compliance required Why It's a Great Opportunity: This position offers the chance to work in a dynamic intermediate care environment where you'll utilize advanced critical care skills while caring for a diverse patient population with complex pulmonary and cardiac needs.
