Senior Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

We are searching for a Senior Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Thermal-Hydraulics Engineer to join our team at Oklo. Position Description The thermal-hydraulics group at Oklo is responsible for analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer in a reactor and associated systems. The CFD Engineer will conduct high-fidelity simulations using commercial tools such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, Nek-5000, OpenFOAM, or equivalent. The role involves documenting results, interfacing with design teams, and supporting engineering analyses. Specific Responsibilities Develop and conduct high-fidelity analyses using CFD to evaluate thermal-hydraulic behavior through the reactor core, reactor vessel, heat exchangers, power conversion, and balance-of-plant systems. Proactively design, model, and analyze thermal-hydraulic systems and develop analysis methods that build confidence in a design. Perform engineering analyses, including thermal, fluid, safety, manufacturability, and cost studies. Collaborate cross-functionally to define design requirements and provide technical feedback to rapidly iterating design teams. Document work using modern tools and write clear, technical reports. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering. Proficiency with STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, Nek-5000, or equivalent CFD software. Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics. Experience with data processing, including pre-processing, post-processing, and scripting. Bonus Qualifications Experience with thermal-hydraulic engineering principles and multi-physics analysis for power systems. Experience with nuclear engineering and multi-physics analysis for advanced reactors. Experience with heat exchanger, turbomachinery, and fluid control system analysis. Competency with modern software engineering practices and programming languages. Fluency in Python. Experience with reactor transient analysis methods. Experience with reactor safety codes such as GOTHIC, RELAP, TRACE, SAM, or SAS4A/SASSYS-1. Five or more years of industrial CFD experience. Travel Requirements Remote employees are expected to travel to Oklo headquarters in Santa Clara, CA twice per quarter and to be onsite for the first two weeks of onboarding. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $100,000–$190,000, dependent on experience.
