Type of Appointment: Permanent Number of Months per Year: 12 FLSA: Exempt Position Summary The position of SERVE Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and management of the SERVE Center. Key Responsibilities Center direction and scope of work Provide leadership to expand work in educational research and evaluations. Synthesize and disseminate results. Provide technical assistance to SEAs, LEAs, IHEs, schools, and the U.S. Department of Education. Create and refine the vision of the SERVE Center. Collaboration and liaison Work with federal, state, and district agencies, institutes of higher education, and education organizations. Serve as the primary liaison between UNC Greensboro and the Center’s sponsors and partners. Maintain contact with officials of other agencies and serve on committees and boards as appropriate. Contract and program management Develop, manage, and oversee trainings, publications, meeting facilitation, and responses to emerging issues. Oversee strategic research concentration areas and special projects. Provide special contracts to education systems as needed. Staff management and leadership Oversee a staff of highly qualified specialists in public instruction. Manage approximately 15 direct reports within a team of over 50 employees. Funding and development Seek and obtain new opportunities for contracts and develop funding proposals. Oversee grant oversight and compliance with guidelines and budgets. Work closely with local, state, and federal agencies to identify needs and develop programs. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or a related field, or Master’s in Education or related field with 5 years experience. 10 years experience with state, regional or national educational organization or agency, in a leadership or senior management role. Experience leading complex educational research and development efforts at the regional and/or national level. Experience in applying for, receiving, managing, and being responsible for large federal contract/grant awards. Preferred Qualifications In depth knowledge of the McKinney Vento Act and other federal, state and local education programs. Experience facilitating project teams and team building. Proposal writing skills and flexibility to respond to emerging issues and requests. Experience working with U.S. Department of Education and NC Department of Public Instruction.
