Seafood Manager

Job Description The following responsibilities and qualifications describe the core work of the Seafood Manager position at 26603 72ND AVE NW, STANWOOD, WA. Responsibilities Provide direct leadership to seafood department crew members, including planning and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, coaching, issuing discipline when needed, providing training and development opportunities, rewarding crew members, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Participate, train and mentor crew members to enthusiastically demonstrate, educate and sell fresh seafood, service meat and chef express products. Manage the training process for all new seafood crew members throughout their probationary period, completing onboarding activities and department‑specific training videos on the in‑house LMS; submit required documentation to Human Resources. Conduct daily team huddles to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations with all crew members. Write and place orders for all ingredients, products and supplies; verify delivery, date, and stock all dry storage, freezers and coolers. Prepare seafood, service meat and chef express products for sale by filleting, wrapping and pricing according to department and company policies. Create daily plans and weekly work schedules that anticipate the needs of the business. Execute all seafood programs and corporate promotions at the store level by working directly with the Seafood Sales Manager on product selection and mix. Control and maintain inventory following FIFO principles to achieve consistent margin. Rotate merchandise and maintain displays to ensure that products meet the freshness guarantee at all times. Coordinate validation, item authorization, sign making and all seafood‑department‑related POS maintenance. Ensure that all displays are properly stocked and that records for damaged or spoiled merchandise are maintained in accordance with company policies. Comply with all food and workplace safety rules and regulations and ensure safety, cleanliness and sanitation of the work area and equipment. Acquire product knowledge across all departments to respond to guest questions and provide informative information about merchandise. Stay updated on weekly specials, coupons and other company promotions that enhance the guest experience. Cultivate a team‑oriented work environment that inspires collaboration and cooperation. Work seven days a week, including weekends, holidays and shift work as required by store hours. Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years of department operations experience or equivalent education and knowledge of the nature of every position within the seafood department. Knowledge of fundamental management concepts, practices and procedures related to food service, merchandising and retail operations. Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department, including willingness to taste and evaluate seafood, chef express, beef, pork and poultry products. Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives and other cutting equipment. Strong work ethic and effective time‑management skills. Ability to comprehend, interpret and analyze instructions, correspondence, regulations, financial reports and inventory records. Proven success with mentoring, motivating and leading a team. Strong math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, working with recipes, gross margins, markup, percentages, variance analysis and budgeting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and courteously with guests, crew members, store management, corporate sales managers and leadership, including telephone and intercom usage. Ability to work with cleaning chemicals, detergents, food ingredients, produce and spices while avoiding allergic reactions. Minimum age 18 years; current State Food Handler’s Permit must be maintained. Work Environment Workspace is primarily in an open department with a sales counter and preparation area, including exposure to ice/wet areas and freezers and refrigerated areas. Physical activity includes lifting (25–50 lbs. routinely), standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, fingering, pushing/pulling and occasional sitting. Tools & Equipment Knives, wrapper, box knife, seafood scale, label machine, computer, printer, telephone, shopping cart, garbage compactor, bailer, pallet jack, flat bed, hand truck, ladder, calculator, mop, broom, floor squeegee. Cleaning supplies: hand soap, hand sanitizer, glass and multi‑surface cleaner, floor degreaser, bio‑shield drain treatment, food‑grade lubricant, quaternary sanitizer. Personal Protective Equipment: cut‑resistant gloves, heavy cotton gloves. Pay Transparency Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on criteria such as location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range.
