Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 Year Recent ICU Experience Preferred License: Pending License Accepted Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Holidays are required. No requests for time off in the first two weeks of assignment. All requests for time off must be presented prior to offer. Requests for time off received after the offer must be discussed with the management on-site. 1 Year Recent ICU Experience Accepted for First-Time Travelers. Description: The position requires flexibility for holiday scheduling. Patient ratios may vary depending on acuity levels. The unit cares for a mix of patients from both the Medical Care Unit and the Intensive Care Unit. Patient diagnoses include COPD, Encephalopathy, Drug Overdose, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Acute Kidney Injury, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Heart Failure, and Atrial Fibrillation. Care involves management of ventilated patients, continuous IV medications, and various intensive monitoring procedures. The nurse will be expected to float to other Intensive Care Units and Medical-Surgical units as needed. Weekend work is required, with an expectation of rotating schedules. The unit has an average of three ventilated patients per day. The position demands strong skills in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and the management of multiple systems in organ failure. Nurse responsibilities include treatment for respiratory and neurological conditions, as well as medication administration and management of central lines. Special procedures performed include CRRT, A-Line placement, CVC placement, tracheostomy placement, and chest tube placement. Nurses must be proficient in various technologies and monitoring equipment used in critical care. Daily patient census averages around 15, with a total of 20 beds available. Interdisciplinary support is provided by multiple services including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. The role requires effective communication, quick decision-making, and teamwork with a diverse healthcare team.
