Job Title Manager, Ambulatory Nursing Location & Department VMC Main Campus, Renton, WA Ambulatory Education and Training Position Type & Compensation Full Time (FTE: 1) Salary Range: Min $130,938 – Max $196,407 annual DOE Reporting Structure Reports to: Director, Ambulatory Operations and Education (dotted line to SVP Patient Care Services) Job Overview The Manager, Ambulatory Nursing provides clinical leadership and professional nursing practice oversight for Triage and Advice Registered Nurses (RNs) within the ambulatory network. The role also supports clinic-based RNs with clinical guidance, nursing workflow standardization, and performance management. Through collaboration with medical directors, clinic managers, operational leaders, and system stakeholders, the manager promotes evidence‑based practice, regulatory compliance, staff development, and quality improvement across ambulatory settings. Prerequisites Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Washington Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field preferred (four years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree) Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory or nursing leadership in an outpatient ambulatory setting Experience Experience developing and managing budgets (preferred) Knowledge of Washington State labor laws and experience working in a unionized environment (preferred) Proficiency with ambulatory nursing workflows, triage protocols, and virtual or telephone advice nursing models (preferred) Qualifications Effective verbal and written communication skills Professional interaction with diverse stakeholders, including operations staff, providers, patients, and other departments Extensive knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, particularly ambulatory care models Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Capacity to manage frequent interruptions and multitask Competence in document creation and spreadsheet management Demonstrated team‑building, interpersonal skills, and self‑responsibility for professional development Conflict management and performance feedback delivery skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (preferred) Familiarity with Washington labor laws and union environment Physical/Mental Demands & Working Conditions Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods Requires occasional travel to various sites within a few miles Function effectively in environments with frequent interruptions and multiple concurrent tasks Performance Responsibilities Provide direct operational, clinical, and personnel management for Triage and Advice RNs Offer clinical practice oversight, professional guidance, and nursing standards support for clinic‑based RNs across the ambulatory setting Develop, standardize, and implement ambulatory nursing workflows, policies, protocols, and practice expectations across triage, advice, and clinic functions Identify practice gaps, quality issues, and workflow inconsistencies to provide actionable clinical insight Partner with clinic managers and Education & Training leaders to develop onboarding, competency validation, clinical education, and professional development for clinic‑based RNs Recruit, hire, coach, evaluate, and hold directly supervised staff accountable to performance expectations and standards; provide corrective feedback as needed Serve as a resource on scope of practice, clinical workflows, triage standards, patient safety, and nursing best practices Promote consistency of ambulatory nursing practice across clinics while respecting operational leadership structures Identify improvement opportunities and implement quality or process improvement methodologies Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in all patient care areas Report safety issues and implement appropriate safety measures Align nursing activities with the principles of a High Reliability Organization Coordinate service with other VMC clinics, departments, and specialties to resolve day‑to‑day issues Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in patient care and act to mitigate risks Lead in accordance with VMC’s mission, vision, and care giver commitments Analyze data on quality, experience, productivity, utilization, and engagement to direct staff performance Address patient complaints to support excellent customer service and care Partner with medical directors, clinic leadership, and stakeholders to ensure high‑quality, efficient care access Adhere to patient and family rights as identified by the institution Meet business objectives assigned by the Ambulatory Network Optimize use of healthcare and nursing services at assigned clinics Represent VMC in local community activities and promote a positive image Collaborate across the ambulatory network to optimize resource use Collaborate with clinic medical directors, leadership, and stakeholders to assure financial viability, operational and clinical excellence Participate in collaborative learning and implement successful practices from other departments Demonstrate high ethical standards and personal integrity Model and reinforce VMC’s leader and caregiver commitments Educate and mentor staff to achieve organizational goals Promote civility, team building, communication, and problem solving Encourage employee engagement and support staff within the scope of their license Ensure appropriate staffing levels and efficient labor practices Other Duties Other duties as assigned. #J-18808-Ljbffr Valley Medical Center & Clinics
